    3. The USGenWeb Free Census Project may prove helpful (http://usgwcensus.org/). It is an all-volunteer effort to transcribe all census records, thus making them searchable using any text, not just head of household. If you know the location your Ann E. was born, you can click on the "Online Inventory" tab at the top of the web page, then drill down to the state -> county -> census year of interest. Or, you may prefer to just search the entire site: simply click on the "Search" tab. If you don't find a the census record you're looking for, you can volunteer to transcribe it: click on the "Help" tab for more info. Good luck, Ken Norman On Mon, Sep 3, 2012 at 1:31 PM, Josette Maxwell < [email protected]> wrote: > Check the 1850 CENSUS because, sometimes, it will list both > the county and state where the individual was born. 3. It would be tough job, but if you have a reasonable guess on location, you might plow through the wills and probate records. The heirs are listed and the females will generally be included with their married names. I've not had any luck using pre-1850 census records except to narrow down probable locations and then look for other records in those areas. Max Cox

    3. Only heads of household are identified in the 1820 census. Typically they're men, but some women, e.g., widows, were named if they were heads of household. It's highly unlikely that a young woman's name would be listed. Instead, she would appear as a female within a particular age range. To see what's on the 1820 census, click on 1820 on this page: http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/get_started/charts_forms.html?sssdmh=dm13.231239. 3. Check the 1850 CENSUS because, sometimes, it will list both the county and state where the individual was born. If I remember correctly, I think they were married in Dallas County. Before that time, only heads of household were listed. If you know to which church they belonged, it may be possible to look at church records because they frequently list all members of a family.
