    3. Just a thought. If the story of Capt. John Maxwell being a stepson. and assuming the name Maxwell is true. Wouldn't that show up in our DNA as us not being of Maxwell decent. My DNA, of over 100 hits, has me as related to Maxwell's much farther up the tree than John. Yet, shows me as a decendant of John, through his son John, and his son Bazil, father of my 2nd GreatGrandfather John of Kentucky who came and homesteaded here in Barry County, Missouri. Here is what I have; Bezaleel Maxwell 1708-1808? Bezaleel Maxwell 1727-1809 Bezaleel Maxwell 1750-1828 Bezaleel Maxwell 1751-1808 Again, the dates may be iffie but I am pretty sure on the placement in my tree. My breakthrough came when I could document that my 3rd Great Grandfather was NOT a Bezaleel but actually Bazil. If I can be of any help just hollor. email me at [email protected] I haven't done roots web since 2007, all of my info is on Ancestry.com - Richard E. Maxwell tree. 3. Dear Daniel, Thank you for your kind reply. Do you think that Henry Maxwell, Harry's father was also a son of Samuel Marks? Is it possible that the family name "Marks" changed into "Maxwell" in one generation though? Or is there any other reason why you thought that Harry Maxwell's name could have been anglicized? Thank you for your precious time and I am looking forward to your message. Dear List Readers, Would someone happen to possess any information about Harry Maxwell (1877-1944; born in Millerstown, Pennsylvania; died in Shanghai, China), who moved to Japan in 1899, where he married a Japanese woman called Masu Yamazaki? His father was Henry Maxwell who was born in New York City, and his grandfather was Samuel Marks (possibly a Russian immigrant, married to Sarah Marks and lived in Toledo, Ohio with their children). Harry owned Maxwell and Company, Ltd. (earlier: Hansen & Maxwell, Ltd.) and Maxwell Insurance Office in Kobe, Japan; as well as Maxwell Manufacturing Company, Inc. in Shanghai. I am also trying to find out more about their daughter, Dora Maxwell who was born in 1902 in Yokohama, Japan. She studied at Lasell College in Massachusetts between 1916-19. 3. I'm missing information on a William Maxwell. Probably born around 1800 in Hawkins County TN. He had siblings Jesse b 1799, Solomon b 1781 Matilda b 1787 and Anne & William b. Unknown. Solomon & William inherited their uncle's land grant in Nashville. They sold the land and according to a family history, they sold the property and went to the "Northwest Territories" (OH, IN, IL, MI & WI). However I haven't been able to find them there. Just a possibility because the dates are close. Interesting note on Solomon & William. They sold their land to Judge John Overton. Their cousin Harriett Maxwell married John's son. John Overton named the property Traveler's Rest. It's now restored and a tourist attraction in Nashville. John Overton Jr built the Maxwell House Hotel in Nashville and named it after his wife's family. The coffee is named after the hotel. The Maxwell family had nothing to do with the coffee company regardless of what you might have heard on Whad'ya Know? radio program on NPR weekend before last. Apparently American Jews had a fondness for Maxwell House Coffee. Michael Feldman thought it might be because the Maxwells of Maxwell House Coffee was Jewish. They are not. However the founder of Maxwell House Coffee, Jacob Cheek is most likely Jewish. Gene At 08:40 PM 2/2/2014, Ken Norman wrote: >Thank you all for the kind remarks and understanding. My favorite admonition is, "Genealogy may be about life and death but it is not a matter of life and death." I have loved researching these last forty years but I hope I have kept it in proper perspective over the years. Thank you for your service for these many, many years, Ken. All the best! 3. My husband and I are both Maxwell's by birth but learned, through this program, that we were not related. I have constantly gotten emails for other relatives for him but never one for me over the years. I must not be the real Maxwell, historically, or I don't have too many living relatives. I think you did a great job. No apologies are necessary. We all have things happen that are more important to attend to- thanks for all you did. I personally was not involved in the Maxwelldna program (I have no male Maxwell in my lines), but like you, have had share of unexpected familiar upsets and know what it can do to genealogical pursuits (and other interests of lesser importance than the challenges at hand). It takes a while to get back on track. Unfortunately, those throwing stones probably have not yet reached the same milestones and have little understanding as to just how secondary some 'important' things become.
