    2. Ken Norman
    3. Max, Glad your back home and feeling better. I hope your recovery continues its current positive trend. Don, Max, I'll graduate in 3 weeks, then off to Europe for a much-needed vacation. Upon return, I hope to get the web site squared away so it's in sync with the FTDNA data. On that front, I'm planning on converting the site to a content management system (specifically Joomla). It should allow easier collaboration without the need for special webmaster skills. I'll be converting another of my websites first, so I'll work the kinks out there, then tackle the Maxwell DNA stuff. Cheers, Ken -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Don Maxwell Sent: Sunday, March 02, 2008 11:16 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MAXWELL] MAXWELL Digest, Vol 3, Issue 17 Max/Wilmer, Am so glad to have my genealogy partner back...yes we have made quite a few new additions to the DNA page (also notice the new direct link to the webpage ).... 2. Oh Gosh Wilmer: What an ordeal you have been through. I did not know anything about it until I got this email, but I am pleased that you are coming along. I was kind of "out of commission" for a while last year as well and did not keep up with things the way I would have liked. I did have surgery last year to remove a cancerous tumor, but unfortunately, the cancer has returned. Well, we do our best and handle what life gives us. I hope you can get out soon too. We are complaining, hoping for an early spring so we can out a little more. Oh please keep us updated on how you are doing, and we'll keep you in our prayers that your rehab will go very well. 3. Dear Max, I don't know if we have any Maxwells in common, but I was very touched by your story. Two years ago, I was in a very bad car accident myself and spent just over 3 months in a hospital bed. Therapy took 5 months for me and I was not back to full function when I was released but was told by my therapist (wonderful person) to just keep working at it and it would probably take 2 years. It was hard to grasp that amount of time as being accurate. However, it turns out that it does take alot of energy, alot of time, and alot of determination to heal. Sure enough, he was right because 2 years later, I really feel like I can do anything that I could do before. The only difference is that I have some limitations but can usually figure out a way around those. My prayers go out to you during your recovery and I wish you the best of luck. Sincerely, Lesli Rice Shaheen (another miracle case) ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2008 1:59 PM Subject: [MAXWELL] BACK AGAIN!!!!!!! > To Dr.Don Maxwell & family (and Maxwell Listers)--- > > AFTER 7 MONTHS IN A HOSPITAL BED, I FINALLY CAME HOME ON FEBRUARY FIRST > !!! > THIS IS MY FIRST EMAIL (WITH MY INDEX FINGER FINGERNAIL)...IT IS VERY > DIFFICULT TO TYPE WITH PARTIALLY PARALYSED ARMS, HANDS, AND FINGERS. > I CAN WALK UNASSISTED WITH A WALKER IN THE HOUSE, AND HAVE A MOTORIZED > SKOOTER FOR FUTURE OUTDOOR RIDING. 2. Everyone, I would like you all to know that the book MAXWELL HISTORY AND GENEALOGY (1916) by Florence Wilson Houston is available for free on google books. You can click the link below and read it on-line or download it as a PDF to your PC. This book was compiled by descendants of the Bezaleel Maxwell family of Albemarle Co., Virginia but contains genealogies of dozens of other interrelated families as well as many unrelated Maxwell lines. In addition to the Maxwell line of Albemarle Co., the following lines are also treated in this book. The page #s I have given in this makeshift index correspond to those in the original text. 1. “Descendants of James Maxwell, York County, PA”, p. 485 2. “Descendants of William Maxwell of VA”, p. 495 (Mercer Co., W VA, Pomeroy, Ohio) 3. “Thomas Maxwell of TN” and Arkansas, p.496 4. “Maxwell Bros of VA”—John, Thomas, Robert, Edley; p.497 5. “Descendants of Nathaniel Maxwell and Esther Carson”, p. 499 6. “Descendants of John Maxwell and wife Jane”, p. 505 7. “Maxwells of Orange Co., IN”, p. 507 8. “Maxwells of W. 1. Re: [MAXWELL] Overton co Maxwells-James
    2. Hi Katherine, It is clearly written Maxwell, but > if I understand correctly you say that it still could > be the names Maxfield. Yes, that is exactly what I mean. I have documents where both the names Maxwell and Maxfield are used in the same document referring to the same individual. The 1836 Tax List (which is the earliest available for Overton) has Jeremiah England owning 258 acres in district 1. If you go to the link below you can see a map of the districts for this tax list. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnoverto/images/1834DistrictMap.jpg District 1 was in what is now Putnam County. The interesting thing is that Joel Maxwell and David Maxwell are also in this didtrict. So it is possible that your Nancy England was the first wife of James G. Maxwell. The Maxfields lived at this time in district 4 which is today Clay County. So they are rather far removed. If you determine it either way, I would like to know. In the meantime I will keep my eyes open for further information or possibilities concerning Nancy England Maxwell. 3. Both the James Maxwell and James Maxfield in the 1840 (page 7 anc.com) Overton co tn census could be my James Maxwell. Both are around the right age for Nancy England.....Also living on the same page are Webb's who are related to Nancy. Also the Wm P Goodbar who bought their slaves in 1848 lives a few people down from them both. ----- Original Message ---- From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, February 19, 2008 12:58:21 AM Subject: Re: [MAXWELL] Overton co Maxwells-James Hello Katherine, I have been researching the Maxwell family of Overton Co., Tennessee for over twenty years and have also wondered who the James "Maxwell" who married Nancy England might have been. To understand the complexity of the question one must realize that there were three and possibly more Maxwell families in the Overton area in the 19th century and a family of Maxfields who were also listed as "Maxwells" in early records some of whom did actually adopt the name Maxwell. I am not able to say conclusively who this James Maxwell was, but I can tell you who he was not, and have some additional ideas for you. Of the various Maxwell families in Overton Co., the largest and most active group were the Windle/Hilham Maxwells (Group 1). This group of Maxwells consisted of the descendants of three brothers Henry Simpson Maxwell, Sr. (1794-1859) Thomas Maxwell (c.1796-1872), and John Maxwell (1805-1891). “James” was a common name in this family, but there was no “James” of the time period you are researching who could possibly have been married to Nancy England. Henry Simpson Maxwell, Sr. had one son James Maxwell (1814-c.1857) who was the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Overton Co. from 1837-1844. He was married to Hettie Goodpasture in 1839 and they were divorced in 1844 at which time James left Overton Co., to join his father in Marion Co., Arkansas and was allegedly killed in the Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857. Another group of Maxwells (Group 2)--in Overton Co from about 1820 to about 1854--was the family of James Maxwell (1799-1879) the son of Bezaleel Maxwell and Nancy/Agnes Turner. This James was probably born in Madison Co., Ky and was married to Elizabeth Hayden. He and his wife Elizabeth and children moved to Texas about 1854. Early census records do show that their oldest two children were sons (born between 1820-1825), but their identities (if they lived to adulthood) are as yet unknown. It is possible that Jeremiah M. Maxwell who married Rhoda Poston was one of them, but at this time proof is lacking. This family of Maxwells and especially Jeremiah lived very close to the Windle/Hilham Maxwells and were associated with them. Additionally, DNA research suggests that these two groups share a common ancestor but at what remove is unknown. The third group of Maxwells in Overton Co., was headed by two brothers named Joel and David. They were brothers of Samuel Maxwell of neighboring Jackson Co. David who was married to Ruth Muirhead did have a son named James who was born about 1824. He was a captain in the Confederate Army and was killed in the war. This James was married at least twice. The first wife was dead before 1850. I don’t know what her name was, but if memory serves she was listed on the mortality schedule of 1850. I also place in this group Mary/Polly Maxwell, who it seems was a sister to David, Joel, and Samuel, who had several children who went by the name of Maxwell. Finally, DNA tests show that Group 3 was not related to Groups 1 and 2. Finally, there were the Maxfields who in many records went by the name of "Maxwell". They descend from Seth and James Maxfield who may or may not have been brothers. James Maxfield (1777-1854)lived in what is currently Clay Co. He had a son named James W. Maxfield who was born about 1819 who allegedly had a wife named Agnes born abt. 1820. Although we don’t think of them that way now, it is important to remember that the names Agnes/Nancy were interchangeable at this period much like “Peggy” and “Margaret”. Also in the records of Overton Co., is a woman named Agnes Maxfield who had several children. The eldest was known as Samuel Bender “Maxwell”. It could be that this Agnes Maxfield was Nancy England Maxwell. I can’t stress enough that the names Maxfield and Maxwell were often interchanged and when researching one of these names you really must pay attention to the other as well. Hope this helps, James Maxwell ----- PŮVODNÍ ZPRÁVA ----- Od: "katherine russell" <[email protected]> Komu: [email protected] Předmět: [MAXWELL] Overton co Maxwells-James Datum: 14.2.2008 - 17:47:30 > Anyone know what family this James Maxwell came from? > I also can't find them in any census records. > > > James is connected to my Jeremiah England family.
