I have done the Ancestry autosomal test. I haven't conclusively proved my Maxwell ancestry on paper. However I have many people in my DNA matches that have some kind of Maxwell connection. They are all greater than 4th cousins which is where they should be since I believe my ggg-grandmother was a Maxwell. I was thrilled to see the recent Maxwell postings. I have also been negligent in posting. I am hoping Ken Hollingsworth is still the administrator. I have coordinated an effort to accumulate Maxwell ancestry linked by family trees, YDNA testing and family histories. DNA testing used to carry a stigma but over the last 20 years it has become more accepted and utilized for identifying brickwall ancestor's family hoping to find a collateral (or direct) link. Hi Christine, How can I find your Maxwell family tree on Ancestry? I have a subscription. I believe the family to whom the Bible belonged to could be of my family line. Margaret Maxwell Donnell, b. March 26, 1791 in North Carolina (probably Guilford Co) was married to my 3rd great grandfather, James Donnell. She is buried in Union Grove Cemetery, Polk County, Missouri. Some think she was the second wife of James Donnell and that his first wife was Eliza Maxwell, perhaps a sister to his second wife. I think it is unlikely that two Margaret Maxwell's would be b. in North Carolina on March 26, 1791. That date is on her tombstone. The Maxwell's have been a puzzle to me. A James Maxwell was among the North Carolina settlers who were in Henry Co., TN in the 1820s. Some of the group, including my Donnell's, moved on to Missouri in the early 1830s. I would like to view your Maxwell family tree if possible. Thanks, Alice Kuglerin Missouri
You would need to talk to Brian Maxwell in England. I mailed it to him. I am sure he could and would send any info. you need. Hi Alice.... If you look for Isaac Newton Maxwell, you will find my Maxwell line. Unfortunately, it does not appear that we are directly related. My Mawell are from Jamesport, Daviess County, MO and Tazewell county, VA. Good luck! I subscribe to Genealogy Gems, which is published by the Allen County, Indiana, Public Library. From the most recent edition, I'm forwarding the passage about the 1641 Depositions. After reading it, I searched for the tomes online and found that they're all digitized and searchable at http://www.1641.tcd.ie/index.php. After I registered for free, I did a test search on Maxwell. Got 22 fascinating hits. If you key in just Max in the surname field, you'll be offered two alternative spellings, bringing the total hits to 24. Original document images are available as are the transcriptions that have been made from them. Be sure to check out all the 1641 Depositions tabs for valuable info about the project. The site seems very thorough indeed. Mary P.S.
