    3. Dear Madolyn, In case you missed it last month, I responded to Virginia's post with info about MAXWELLs and AUDLEYs: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MAXWELL/2012-01/1326679741. My post includes how I identified Martha R. MAXWELL's ancestry. I see that Sunbury, GA, is in Liberty Co., so you may also be interested in my response to Ken Norman's post about Liberty Co., Georgia, MAXWELLs: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MAXWELL/2012-01/1326753895. I believe it will take DNA testing to link your James Audley MAXWELL to my line. Do you know any male descendants who bear the surname MAXWELL and who would be willing to be tested? Regards, Mary Richardson P.S. After I wrote http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/MAXWELL/2012-01/1326679741, I determined that I misidentified Martha's mother's maiden name. It appears to have been WHITE, not DUNSTAN. 3. Hi Madolyn & Virginia, I discovered I am not connected to James Audley Maxwell. Wish I were as lots of people seem related. My earliest is William Maxwell, died in Kershaw County, SC, 1792. His brother was John from Lancaster County, His wife was Abigail Milhous. I know their children and her background. Have you talked to Don Maxwell or Ken Norman about DNA? That's all I know. 3. Sue, Don is still the Maxwell Surname Y-DNA Project administrator. I'm merely the webmaster for maxwelldna.com, which may be why you thought someone else runs the project. Just FYI, I'm also an administrator (and webmaster) for two other surname projects--Norman & McCorkle--so I'm happy to answer anyone's questions regarding genetic genealogy (or direct folks to the experts if I don't have an answer). 3. Does anyone know of a Paradine Maxwell, school teacher, (at least in Ardmore, OK later) b. 1837, Kentucky, d. 1900 Carter County, Oklahoma.  Married Adam Poe, Confederate soldier from Osage County, Missouri between 1860 and 1865.  Lived in Nebraska City, Nebraska, ca1865 to before 1880, back in Missouri in 1880 with daughter Anna Eliza Poe.  She was probably in the Springfield, Missouri area after 1884 and went to Oklahoma before 1900.  Daughter Anna married William Edward Luster 9/4/1884 in Maries County, Missouri.  Anna was In the Chickasaw Nation, Oklahoma in 1900, township 1 south, Range 2 east. She was also a school teacher. This Adam Poe is the older brother of my great-grandfather, William Pike Poe of Osage and Maries Counties in Missouri.  Paradine is one of my little mysteries.   William L. 3. Greetings, Cousins.... My grandmother was Ruby Maxwell. I am brickwalled at Campbell Maxwell b. 1806 in Tazewell, VA who married Jane Whitley. His father is often thought to be Audley Campbell Maxwell. I do not believe this is true. I can confirm his descendants who moved to Jamesport, MO in 1858 and am happy to share info. His second wife was Sarah Jane Whitten, but I cannot find credible information on her lineage. I have been chasing this mystery for a long time and would appreciate any help. 3. My line begins with Henry Maxwell m. Agness Carson. Walter Carson, father of Agnes, was in Chester Co PA by 1729 (record). He bought land in what became Adams County PA and moved there mid 1740s. The first record we have of Henry is when he was listed as a witness on the will of Robert Maxwell (m. Catherine) in Drumore, Lancaster County PA d. 1752 age 39. Henry using constructed data was born between 1724 and 1732. Henry and Agnss had seven sons (John, James, Walter, Samuel, Thomas, Robert and Henry). Walter moved to Franklin County PA and then to Washington County PA in 1805 - had no children. John, James, Samuel, Thomas, Robert and Henry all moved to Washington County PA by 1790 as did their father (possibly Agnes died in Adams Ct.). Thomas, Robert, John and Samuel moved into Brooke County WV by 1796. Walter, James and Henry stayed in Washington County PA until circa 1818, James and Henry then moved to Brooke County WV for a couple of years and on to Harrison County Ohio (James probably died circa 1819). James had all girls and Henry one son and two daughters. Samuel died Brooke Ct. 1807, had a number of children almost all of whom ended up in Ohio. Thomas and Robert were among the first settlers in Harrison County Ohio early 1800s, both had large families. Basically, all the children/grandchildren ended up in Harrison County Ohio and, from there, moved westward. I have all the grandchildren and great grandchildren documented. There is another Maxwell family living in this area at the same time, which confuses some people. 3. He had 8 great uncles, two of whom were historians, so we got all of the collection and it is humongous. One wrote county history books, but I don't think we have your county. But I do live across from BYU in Provo, Utah, and it has a great library with a huge room full of books on counties, states and countries. I can look in the section that you are interested in, and see what I find. I need to go over there sometime this week, anyway. I have been doing a huge research project for 13 years and have been avoiding genealogy recently- sort of. Recently I discovered that there are very old books on one side of that particular room, and I want to go on a tour of the entire huge library. again to remind myself of what is there. BYU has a family history major and has great books for genealogy, a huge map collection, and just about everything you need. Between that and the Family History Library in Salt Lake, it is pretty complete. I will see what I can find for you. I did look in a very old book we have on the history of the Maxwell's but didn't see that name in the index. You might also go onto RW trees and write in his name and see if anyone has him in their line. 3. Mary, I have Norman ancestors who came through Liberty County, Georgia. For what it's worth, in my research, I ran across an Audley Maxwell in Liberty County, GA, in the early 1800s. He's listed on the 1820 Liberty County Census (Microfilm: Series M33, Roll 8, Page 258). I haven't done any research on this Audley, and you may already know of him, but I didn't see SC mentioned in your post, so I thought I'd throw it out there. 3. Dear Virginia, I'm not familiar with Charles Audley MAXWELL, but Audley is a marker for my MAXWELL line. Audley and variant Edley occur as forenames in several generations. My MAXWELLs came to the Valley of Virginia in 1740, but DNA testing has revealed that we are also connected to James MAXWELL and Patty AUDLEY of Massachusetts. See Group 7 at http://www.maxwelldna.com/results.php, in particular kit 41271. See also http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/a/r/Jimmye-M-Martin-1/GENE1-0001.html. By the early 1770s, my MAXWELLs had migrated from Augusta Co., VA, heading southwest through Botetourt (now Rockbridge) Co., and then to what became Tazewell Co. in 1800. Tazewell is very close to Wise Co. (which wasn't formed till 1856.) My direct line of MAXWELLs ultimately moved north from Tazewell into what is now southern WV, but a brother William went west instead, settling in Logan Co., KY, in the mid 1780s. Do you know where in KY your Martha was born? Using the 1870 census, I see that your Charles went by Audley and that his family was only in KY for a short time -- all the children except Martha and her twin Nancy were born in VA. In 1870 Audley, wife Zipporah, and kids were in Holly Creek, Wise Co., VA. In 1860, 31-year-old Audley MAXWELL and family were in Wise Court House, Wise Co. In 1850, 26-year-old Audley MAXWELL and family were in Mercer Co., VA (now WV), which is where my MAXWELLs were in 1840. (Ten years later, my crew had moved slightly north to Raleigh Co.) In 1850 Audley and Zipporah's oldest child was 3, suggesting they were married 1846-ish. Living in the same Mercer Co. district were Thomas (b. ~1796) and Mary MAXWELL (mistranscribed at Ancestry.com as MOXWELL) and four children -- all born in VA. Two households away and on the same image are 29-year-old James MAXWELLE (mistranscribed as MAXVILLE) with wife Mary and three kids, including son Campbell. Campbell is another forename that appears amongst my MAXWELLs. I happen to have these families in my database. Thomas and Mary "Polly" MARRS MAXWELL were married in Mercer Co., VA, and had 7 children that I know of. One was James, who married Mary LUSK and had 3 children, including son Campbell. Another was Edley, who married Zipporah DUNSTAN about 1845 in Mercer Co. I see that I only tracked Edley and Zipporah's family up to 1860, so I now know that I hadn't recorded all their children, including twins Martha and Nancy. Audley/Edley's father Thomas was the son of Audley MAXWELL and Ann MATHEWS, who were my 5g-grandparents. Audley's older brother James and wife Jane were also my 5g-grandparents. Audley and Ann's daughter Elizabeth married her first cousin William, son of James and Jane. Elizabeth and Wm were my 4g-grandparents. Sorry to have taken a circuitous route to figure this out, but I didn't know about Martha, nor did I know her father as anything but Edley. How do you know his first name was Charles? I only found him as Audley/Edley, even in his Civil War pension application (July 1900, age 77).
