    2. Hi Lyn- To get help with a family surname: _http://genforum.genealogy.com/_ (http://genforum.genealogy.com/) After the slash you may type Maxwell, Jones, Smith, etc. Also, there is the international society CLAN MAXWELL or HOUSE OF MAXWELL. And one more, MAXWELL DNA family project. There are several family trees listed under misc. on the DNA webpage. Finally you might look at MORMON CHURCH, FAMILY HISTORY. All of these pages will come up if you go to GOOGLE and type the capitalized words. When you get into Pennsylvania Maxwell families, , I am 89 years of age (brag, brag!) and have been collecting data since 1965.....Max this In a message dated 6/11/2012 1:04:49 P.M. Someone directed me to Bolton. Can you direct me to the MAXWELL info. I'm also interested in Maxwell in South Carolina Marriages about 1803 to 1820. Can anyone help? 1. [MAXWELL] 1940 Census Helps
    2. Barbara Krall
    3. After many hours of searching I finally found Sylvan Miller Maxwell and his father Erastus Miller Maxwell. They were not in Nashville, TN as I thought but were located in another District just outside the city limits in 1940. I was able to locate 1940 maps from the site mentioned below which put me on the right tract. I already had a current City Map for Nashville to use as a comparison. I needed to look in Davidson county "other places" not Nashville. If you have an account with Ancestry.com, search the name you are seeking in the City Directories for an address in the correct timeframe. Next, this is a very good website. http://stevemorse.org He has lots of information on the census and covers all the States. He will be able to link your street address to the correct images. I hope this helps someone. Barbara Maxwell Krall

    3. That would be David Maxwell, born 1731 in Lancaster Co PA. He married Nellie McCullough. They had 6 children, Jean, George, Rebecca, Jesse, James & David. As far as I have been able to determine the line daughtered out. At least Jesse's did. David had 2 son's that left TN for the "Northwest Territory" which at the time was Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan & Wisconsin. I found someone several years ago that thinks they were descended from one of them, but nothing conclusive. 2. Hi Gene, Out of curiosity who was Jesse Maxwell's brother? Was his name James Maxwell? Who were the heirs of Jesse's brother and who was his wife? I would appreciate any information you could give me. 3. Gene: I looked on Map Quest and found Crieve Hall, TN. It is part of south Nashville just east of Highway 65, near Oak Hill. There were directions from there to Traveler's Rest Historic House 636 Farrell Pkwy. This property looks to be very close to 65. You can try the 1940 census which will ask if you know any adjoining roads which would Farrell Pkwy and 65. Traveler's Rest House has a web site which is very nice. I found the site on Map Quest. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Gene Phillips Sent: Wednesday, May 09, 2012 10:34 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MAXWELL] 1940 Census list of Maxwell"s in TN Do you know if Crieve Hall area was part of Nashville in 1940? 3. Do you know if Crieve Hall area was part of Nashville in 1940? If I had any Maxwell relatives left they would have probably been living in that area. Jesse Maxwell, my gggg-gf received a land grant in that area for his Revolutionary War service. He claimed an adjoining grant for the heirs of his deceased brother. They sold the property to John Overton who established Traveler's Rest Planation. His son John Overton Jr married Harriet Maxwell, my 1st cousin 4 times removed. Jr built the Maxwell Hotel in downtown Nashville. The oldest son of John Overton Jr was also named John Overton. He probably inherited the property and may have appeard on the 1940 census. A unmarried niece of Harriet, Mollie Maxwell Claiborne wrote a history of the Maxwell Family. I have a copy. She died in Jan 1940 so she wouldn't appear in the census. Her mother inherited the Maxwell property, but it was sold out of the family. 3. Have you seen the LDS 1940 Census site? I'm having a hard time getting the page to move so I can see the next name, column or detail. Hints? [email protected]
