    3. Have any of you tried FamilyTreeMaker.com's Genealogy Library? It doesn't have as many census as Ancestry, but it does have the 1850 and 1900 census online. Plus it has census index, county histories, and family histories. Sandy McSpadden.

    2. Mary Lou, Thank you very much for sharing that with me. I feel much better now that I know I am not the only one that has experienced problems with ancestry com. I have never found anything there either. I have found some on the genweb though. In fact I have met several relatives that I didn't know were out there just by posting. Even people that are not kin to me know some of the information that I needed and sent it to me. Kat

    2. Hi, I too have to drive about 75 miles to the big library in Austin, Texas. We have one here but it doesn't have other states and all the other stuff that the one in Austin has. I would wish that it would be worth the money to use ancestry.com. Kat

    2. I subscribed to ancestry.com for 1 year, I believe it was in 1999. In that entire year, I was not able to find 1 useful piece of genealogy information! The genforums and other postings which are free, connected me to more family members than I ever dreamed possible. Recently I received an email from yet another cousin from a posting I made over 2 years ago. Never give up hope that someone is looking for other family members. Marylou Maxwell

    3. Ancestry census on line is not perfect. My biggest gripe is that when trying to find a township often what you're looking for is not listed. Some I've never found. Others I've found mixed with another nearby township. Also, except for 1850 and 1920 there's no index. However, for me to be able to search through census data requires me to travel a minimum of 90 miles. When I get there I'm always rushed for time. With the Ancestry census access I can sit and scroll through the pages at my leisure. When I get a clue to another ancestor I can log on and pursue it immediately without having to plan another trip to be able to follow up on the lead. An annual subscription costs about the same as one trip to the library, so for me it is well worth the cost, even with the problems they have. -- Larry Thompson My genealogy page http://www.epix.net/~lt0168/index.html My Allegheny Co. maps page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lt0168/maps/

Marylou Maxwell, I was wondering if you may have information on a Joseph F. Maxwell. He married my G Grandmother Rebecca S. Grant. Rebecca was b. in Bullitt Co. Ky in 1856. I have no b date for Mr. Maxwell. I don't know what happened, either a death, or divorce??? But, I do know on her marriage bond 9-13-1883 to My G Grandfather Lewis B. Grant her name was Rebecca S. Grant.?? These dates imply that she was 27 years old when she married my G Grandfather. Any thoughts on any of this??? Thanks a lot L.Dale Shrader.

    1. [MAXWELL-L] Ancestry.com Images Online Save Tip
    2. Ray W. Justus
    3. Would you like to save the entire census page in a readable format? I have found a way to do this using the LizardTech MrSid browser. I will list the steps below. 1. When the image is displayed on your screen, right-click and select Frame Size. 2. Change the Custom Size to 2048 by 2048 and click the OK button. 3. Right-click again and select Save Image As. 4. Click on Save as type and select JPEG File (*.jpg) 5. Name the file appropriately and save it in a folder of your choice. The black border around the image is also saved. I use my own graphics program to remove this border and resave the file. Contrary to recent comments by other listers, I think the online images are great! They are much easier for this fifty-six year old man to read than microfilms in a dark library. With the indexes now being released we have a great opportunity to selectively preserve these records for posterity. I happily renewed my subscription for another year earlier this month. Good Luck! Ray Justus Chandler, AZ P.S. There are already nine states available on the 1930 census with at least one being added every week.

    2. Hi, I myself feel like that they only take your money and that is it. I had subscribed to the census only to not be able to print it out. I even wrote to them from support and they did finally reply only to tell me that it should work and what to do of which it did not. I finally just stopped my subscription to them. I have wondered the same thing that you are asking about if anyone really gets any solid information from that that is correct and true. Kat
