Maxwells; My gr gr grandmother was Susannah (Hannah?)Maxwell b 4 Feb 1787. Her father was Patrick Maxwell. She was baptized in Mercersburg Presby Church 16 Jun 1774, her brother William was baptized 5 Jan 1779. Patrick was son of Major William Maxwell. His children were Hannah Elizabeth Maxwell b 11 Aug 1808, James Huston Maxwell b 16 Oct 1810. There is some confusion and the thought that Susannah and Hannah are the same person. Can anyone help me? Larry, Some time ago, I wrote you regarding my Amos C. MAXWELL. I had nothing any further back than Amos. I recently acquired a copy of his death certificate. Amos was b. 18Apr1853 d. 06Feb1922. His Parents are Jacob C. MAXWELL and Elizabeth WARWICK. They were all born in Delaware. With this new information, would you have any information on this family. So far I have found nothing on his parents. My next trip to the Archives in Dover, I will research them further. Hopefully they will be in the Wilmington City Directories. At least with the new information (his parents names) I will be able to start my search on Jacob and Elizabeth. Dont you just love how one piece of paper can hold so many leads to a person's life and their past.? Hope you can let me know if this connects to your many resources. This now gives me the names of 5 generations of ancestors before me. I have children and my sisters and brothers have grandchildren so that makes 8 generations. My siblings are not really interested in the research of genealogy, but they like to hear about it, some of their children are facinated by it, their grandchildren are too young right now. They used to be a little bothered by questions, Had that look of , Oh God! she is still asking question. lol. Now that they have realized Im going to continue on, they are supportive. I have taken some of my sons to the archives and they like looking for names in the card catalogs while I order up the folders they are in or find them on microfilm. Maybe Im tempting them into being interested. The last time I took one, he was amazed, he couldnt believe (and neither could I) I got 2 death certificates, 1 marriage record, and a marriage bond on various ancestors. Not all trips are the successful. Well , I need to finish some paperwork on the information I found last week at the archives. Just remembered you had lots of information and was hoping my new found MAXWELL additions would be in your files. Thanks for taking the time to check into this for me Take care. Vickie
In case you you hadn't looked yet. In 1880 Amos was enumerated with an Alfred Ruth in White Clay Creek, New Castle, DE Also if you go to familysearch.com you will find someone had put in some info. They said that Jacob was born Chester, PA abt 1831 and that his wife's name was Eliza Ann (could be short for Elizabeth) was born, New Castle, DE was born May 1829 and died 09 Sep 1854 in New Castle and that they were married about 1850 in New Castle. They also had a daughter Rachel Maxwell born 1852 in DE. Further looking - not sure if it's a match... shows a Jacob Maxwell born 1830 Chester PA to James Maxwell and Mary Mendenhall also shows (this looks more likeley): Jacob C Maxwell born 1830 Chester PA born to William Maxwell b. 9 Sep 1807, Chester PA d. 3 jul 1899 and married Rachel Craig mar.date. 23 apr 1829. It shows a son Jacob bn 1831 PA and son Richard born about 1840 in New Castle, DE Hope this helps some. --- Cooking0404@aol.com wrote: > Larry, > Some time ago, I wrote you regarding my Amos C. > MAXWELL.
