    3. Good morning list from England. I have found what I thin is my wife's ancestor James Brown age 40 born England in the 1880 census working as a machinist and bording at 114 Lafayette St, Worcester. I cannot see him in 1900. Can anyone suggest where I might look for a death record? Thanks Roger ps - I am happy to do UK census lookups for the list -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter. 2. Vital Records Project
    3. Good morning, Roger. You are fortunate that Massachusetts is probably the most genealogically friendly state in the U.S. And, thanks to the New England Historic Genealogical Society working the the State Archives, there is a wealth of vital records available online. James Brown is a very common name. I checked for all deaths between 1880 and 1900 in Worcester County. There were three who died in the town of Worcester, but one was born in the state of Maine and I have not listed him. The other two, while not born in England, were born in the U.K. and I list their records. 1. James Brown, Sept. 4, 1898, married, a. 65, Brights Disease, janitor, b. Ireland to Michael & Jane Brown, both b. Ireland. 2. James G. (C. ?) Brown, Sept. 25, 1893, married, a. 73, Cystitis & dysentery, machinist, b. Scotland to James, b. Scotland, & Jennie Crawford, b. Ireland. There were about 20 deaths of a James Brown in Worcester County in that 21 year span. If neither of these is your wife's ancestor, perhaps you could provide a litte more info and another lookup could be done. If you have James' birth date, that would help the researcher doing a lookup to winnow out those that don't fit. Also, are you sure of his place of birth being England rather than Ireland or Scotland as the two above. Good luck. :-) John & Jodi Massachusetts Vital Records Administrators - http://MA-VitalRecords.org If you find this site of value - http://MA-VitalRecords.org/Donate.html Quoting Roger Davies <roger.davies55@virgin.net>: > Good morning list from England. > > I have found what I thin is my wife's ancestor James Brown age 40 > born England in the 1880 census working as a machinist and bording > at 114 Lafayette St, Worcester.
