BERG was KIA in 1968 during the Vietnam War. She was a registered private duty nurse, an industrial nurse and school nurse. She was also head nurse of phychiatric nursing at Worcester State Hospital for 13 years. She was chosen to travel to Vietnam as one of four Gold Star Mothers for the dedication of Project Concern Hospital in Lien Hiep, in the Central Highlands. Born in Worcester to Per August & Anna (KARLSSON) ANDERSON.***no mention of spouse. Private burial in Mooreland Cemetery. December 8 1997, Northbridge, Myrtle E. (WIDGER) SIMONDS GARY, 93, lived in Whitinsville. One of her 9 sons, Albert VEENSTRA, was killed during the Korea War in 1950. She was a housekeeper for nursing homes in Millbury and Grafton. A 45 year member of the Charles MINNIE VFW Post 3329, Ladies Auxiliary in Millbury. Born in Oxford to William & Adeline (BUTLER) WIDGER. Her first husband was Henry SIMONDS. Her husband Charles GARY died in 1960. Burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitinsville. September 5 1997, Clinton, Stephanie B. (KISIEL) MATISIEWSKI, 91. Her son, Joseph MATISIEWSKI was KIA during the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. She worked as an assembler for some time. A member of Our Lady of Jasna Gora Church and honorary member of Joseph MATISIEWSKI Post, Polish-American Veterans. She was born in Three Rivers to John & Frances (BADOREK) KISIEL. Her husband, Peter MATISIEWSKI died in 1972. **sorry I missed her burial site. March 11 1997, Cambridge, Jessie (MAC PHERSON) CHASSON, 85, formerly of Worcester, died in Watertown. A son, Philip CHASSON of Ft. Campbell, KY, was KIA in 1968 during the Vietnam War. She was a nurse's aide at Harvard University Health Services. Born in Mexico, ME to John & Margaret MACPHERSON. She has 4 deceased sons, 4 living sons and 5 living daughters. Her husband, Philip CHASSON, died in 1970. After cremation, a graveside service will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. February 9 1997, Templeton, Elizabeth M. (LEBLANC) SAWYER, 83, formerly of Athol and Baldwinville, died in Gardner. Her son, Norman FORCIER of Fitchburg, was KIA during the Korean War. She worked 11 years at McElwain Shoe Co. in Athol and 25 years at Fitchburg Yarn Co. She and her husband then managed a mobile-home park in Phoenix for several years beore retiring Born and raised in Fitchburg to Benjamin and Mary (MCGRATH) LEBLANC. Her husband, George H. SAWYER Jr., died in 1991. Graveside services after cremation in Highland Cemetery, Athol. December 17, 1996, Southbridge, Cecelia M. (LAVALLEE) HEBERT, 92. Her son, Clifford HEBERT was KIA in Italy during WWII.She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and its Ladies of St. Anne Sodality. She was also a member of the Southbridge Chapter, Disabled American Veterans, Aux. Born n Champlain, NY to Euzeb & Delia (LOMBARD) LAVALLEE. Her husband, Oscar HEBERT, died in 1986. Burial in St. Anne's Cemetery, Sturbridge. November 30 1996, Winchendon, Phoebe B. (MAWHINNIE) CLAPP GREENLAW, 93. A son, Kenneth F. CLAPP, died June 18, 1944 during WWII. She was owner and secretary of the former F.L. Clapp Novelty Co. in Winchendon. She was the last surviving Gold Star Mother of WWII from Winchendon. Born in Winchendon to Chipman & Nellie (DERBY) MAWHINNIE. Her first husband, Frederick L. CLAPP, died in 1963. Her second husband, Harry L. GREENLAW, died in 1982. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. September 10 1996, Webster, Ellen E. (BRENNAN) KITTREDGE, 93, formerly of Worcester. A son, Edward F. KITTREDGE was killed i 1942 in the invasion of Guadalcanal. She was a member of St. John's Church, Worcester. Born in Leitrim County Sligo, Ireland to Bartholomew & Catherine (KEENAN) BRENNAN and came to Worcester in 1927.
