    1. [MAWORCES] How much should I send for the probate file?
    2. Dora Smith
    3. This is concerns Norfolk County, but people on this list are a whole lot more active. Norfolk County probate court wants us to send a check for not over some amount to cover cost of photocopying a probate file of an Azorean fisherman in Cohasset who died in 1885, without a will, leaving a widow (of Azorean parents) and one minor child aged 16, and who from the census may have owned a house on that hunk of exposed rock on the edge of Cohasset by the harbor where the Portuguese people lived. Could also have owned a fishing boat. Cost of copying is a dollar a page. They don't do refunds and they don't do electronic payment. They only do checks made out for not above a certain amount. Court clerk suggested $25 but I wonder if it's really likely to be that much. How much do you think? Yours, Dora Smith Austin, TX tiggernut24@yahoo.com

    3. Hi Dora - I've never done research there, but maybe you could check out the www.raogk.org site to see if there is a researcher who can go to that court, look at the probate file, and see how many pages are there? Then you can send in the correct amount of money. I hope you can find someone willing to help you out. Good luck, Lisa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dora Smith" <tiggernut24@yahoo.com> > This is concerns Norfolk County, but people on this list are a whole lot > more active. > > Norfolk County probate court wants us to send a check for not over some > amount to cover cost of photocopying a probate file of an Azorean > fisherman in Cohasset who died in 1885, without a will, leaving a widow > (of Azorean parents) and one minor child aged 16, and who from the census > may have owned a house on that hunk of exposed rock on the edge of > Cohasset by the harbor where the Portuguese people lived.
