    3. Below is the outcome of American Diner Museum historian Gary Thomas research on the R & R Diner.. This is Worcester #636, built in 1929 and first known as Parks' Diner at the West Boylston st. address and run by George Park and his brother, whose name I don't know. As far as I know it was known as the R & R from the mid 30s and later known as the City Line Diner under Edmund C. White in the 1945 directory. This diner at 368 West Boylston was moved to Shrewsbury around 1950 and joined with #666 and then found it's way to Norwich, VT. about 1990 and I believe has been moved from there recently. maybe Daniel Zilka knows more about this. There is a picture of it in Micheal Witzel's book joined with the 666, when it was known as the Midway Diner in Shrewsbury. I have a picture of it in the Cambridge area awaiting a move to Vermont around 1990. There was another diner in the 1945 directory known as the City Line Diner and run by Roy E. Smith at 1028 Southbridge St.. but that is only year I see that listing under Smith. (my listings for diners in Worcester are in 5 year increments) This diner was there until about the 1970s and mostly known as the YD Diner under Henry Knowles. I would suggest doing a complete check of all the directories of Worcester of this period to see what they list for the diners in question and Roy Smith or any other people connected.. sometimes in the last listing they will tell you where he may have moved to. Tedious, but one way to get an idea of who was who and so forth. by checking the residence listings also you might get an idea of the family members.hope this helps Gary Thomas Author: Diners of the North Shore
