When I asked a general question, I guess it was the wrong thing to do, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew of "different" places to look for info. I'll copy a note I wrote to another person on the list and maybe it might make the question easier... I posted a general question to the MA list because the family is from GA. That's why it was a GENERAL question, not a MAWORCES question. I thought SKS who is an experienced researcher could give me an idea of WHERE to look for clues not do the research. I have looked in all the COMMON places, wills, obits, cemetery records, directories, etc., and thought someone might know of someplace that isn't so common to look. Looking for Elenore DANIEL born between 1920-1927, not sure where but most likely Phenix City, AL, to Estelle GREGORY (MO 1887, AL 1928) and Walter (aka William) N. DANIEL (GA 1885, LA 1965). Estelle came from St. Louis to Phenix City, AL about 1920 and married Walter. They had Elenore. Estelle died in Dec. 1928, obit says she leaves a daughter Elenore and had been in PC for 8 years. Can't find Estelle in the MO or AL 1920 to verify. Walter DANIEL was born in Thomaston, GA, illegitimate son of Julia Ann DANIEL, father unknown. Has half brother William (aka Walter) R. FULLER, my grandfather, who dies in Denver, CO in Dec. 1926 and is shipped back to PC. AL for burial. Walter DANIEL receives his half brother in PC and pays for his burial and marker. Confused yet??? Walter DANIEL is in PC, AL in 1922 when his mother dies and signs her death certificate (William DANIEL), residence given, same as mother. I know he is the city clerk and treasurer for PC, AL definitely be! tween 1926-1928, probably before that. In Dec. of 1928, he takes a job as traveling auditor for the state of AL. About 1930 he, and I assume Elenore, his daughter, move to New Orleans, LA and in later years, Walter works for the IRS. Walter dies in Mar. 1965, Elenore signs his death certificate with her maiden name, Elenore Daniel, and gives her address the same as her fathers. The cemetery has the deed to the cemetery plot for Walter in a folder, sent registered mail to Elenore's address, unsigned, unopened, not received by Elenore. I can't find Elenore in any of the NO, LA city directories and she disappears off the face of the earth when her dad dies. Elenore paid for the plot, there is no marker on the grave, very nice memorial cemetery. So now you see why I posted for general genealogy research questions and possible places to look. I've exhausted the "normal" places to check and thought someone might have some obscure information idea. I started all this research because my mom was adopted when she was born in 1923 and I wanted to find her family. You can't even imagine the skeletons I've found! There is a good possibility that Elenore DANIEL is still alive and I would love to find her, so please let me know if you have any ideas. The only two others I haven't found are moms 2 biological sisters, but that's a whole other story..... The deed to the plot has Elenores name and the address on the death certificate and that's it. No one else is buried with Walter DANIEL in LA and no one is buried in the plot Elenore's mother is buried in in Phenix City, AL. Walter is mentioned in a book as the city clerk and treasurer in PC but the court house in PC isn't helpful at all in finding additional records.
