Hi All: The message below is for any/all on the Worcester List. Susan says she has tried to post the message and it won't go through. Maybe there is someone who can help her. I cannot since I don't live close enough to do the looking. Thanks, Alison Franks Archivist, Rawson Family Association -----Original Message----- From: Susan Hedeen [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, April 03, 2006 2:05 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Help Land records I am a member of the MAWorcester list and have seen your name a lot in helping direct people to resources. I live in Virginia. I am looking for someone interested in looking for some land records in Worcester Co. I believe they are at the registry of deeds on Main Street in Worcester; however, I am uncertain of that. The land was owned by _*Timothy Sewell*_ at the time of his death (with will) in _*1753.*_ He was described in the will as a resident of Mendon, Worcester Co., MA and Cumberland, Providence Co., RI. _/*Incidently, the name Sewell is spelled several different ways in both the will and the probates (ie: Sewell, Sewall, Sewel, Sewil, Shewil--*/_*thus even in the land records it may be spelled variously).* He owned approximately 80 acres of land, house, out buildings, personal property, a servant or slave "my negro, Cesar", and a gun. The estate and guardianship for 2 minor children Joseph & Anna were also probated. The sole executrix was Katherine Sewell who in 1754 while the probating was in process married Anthony Chase. I have copy of the will and the probates. I am looking now for the land records noted in the will; who the grantors were and who the grantees were. Heirs listed in the will were _*Wife, Bridget* _(this was his 2nd wife and they were married 30 June 1735. Bridget was the mother of Joseph & Anna ages 15 & 13 at the time of his death) who was to receive 1/3 of the total estate plus the negro, Cesar until Joseph came of 21 years; the balance was to be equally divided among his living children ( most who were born of Elizabeth Jeffrey Sewell whom he married in Lynn 1716): _*John Sewell, Elizabeth Gibson, Margaret Sherman, Katherine Sewell, Rebekah Sewell, Joseph Sewell and Anna Sewell.*_ _*At 21 years Joseph was to receive the negro, Cesar and Timothy's gun.*_ Elizabeth d/o Elizabeth & Timothy married Eleanah Gibson; Margaret d/o Elizabeth & Timothy married Elkanah Sherman; Katherine d/o Elizabeth & Timothy married Anthony Chase; Anna d/o Bridget & Timothy married William Soule. Obviously, Timothy Jr, Sarah and their mother Elizabeth Jeffrey were no longer alive at the time of Timothy's will--Elizabeth certainly dead prior to his 2nd marriage in 1735. Anyone who would be so kind to help me in this quest will be in my debt. Thankyou...Susan -- No virus found in this incoming message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
