    3. (IV) Paul RAYMOND, son of Lt. Paul RAYMOND (III) was born at Salem, Mass. and baptized in the First Church there on May 17, 1730. He settled in Holden, Mass. He was a soldier in the Revolution. He was commissioned a Major on Feb. 2, 1776, in Colonel DENNY's First Worcester Regiment. He was commissioned again to Lt. Colonel of a new Worcester County Regiment under Colonel STALMAN for service in Canada and New York in June 1776. He removed to Winchendon in 1776 and died there April 10, 1817, age 87. He married at Winchendon on Nov. 27, 1755 to Abigail JONES, born April 6, 1734 and died June 1809. She was the daughter of James and Abigail JONES of Weston, Mass. Their children were: #1 Eunice born Jan. 9, 1757, died Sept. 29, 1759 #2 Paul born Aug. 13, 1759 #3 James, see forward #4 Joel born Dec. 9, 1764 #5 Abigail born Feb. 24, 1767, married Deacon George COFFIN #6 Jesse born May 4, 1769 #7 Silas born Oct. 15, 1771 #8 Liberty born July 7, 1774, died June 9, 1813 at Corinth, Vermont #9 Anna born Nov. 7, 1776, died Aug. 1778. The above all born in Holden. (V) James RAYMOND, son of Col. Paul RAYMOND (IV), was born at Holden on Dec. 8, 1761. He went to school there until 1776, whe the family removed to Wincendon. He owned his farm later near his father's on the road to Gardner. He became a man of note in the town, Selectman in 1807 and 1808 and helped to draft a petition to President JEFFERSON to suspend the embargo in whole or in part, dated Sept. 5, 1808. He was Assessor in 1808. He married (1st) on Jan. 11, 1789 to Molly GALE, widow, who died Sept. 19, 1831. He married (2nd) on Dec. 27, 1832 to Dolly HAVEN, widow. Their children were : #1 Levi, see forward #2 Polly born April 4, 1791, died Oct. 11, 1841, married Ezra HYDE #3 James, Jr. born Oct. 17, 1792, died young #4 Nathan born June 29, 1794, died Dec. 1, 1825 #5 Lucinda born Feb. 8, 1796, died April 14, 1877, married to Peter WOODBURY on Dec. 13, 1827 #6 Clark born Niv. 13, 1797 #7 Fidelia born Jan. 13, 1800, died Nov. 5, 1833, married Hervey TAFT on April 10, 1821 (VI) Levi RAYMOND,son of James RAYMOND (V) was born in Winchendon, Mass. on Aug. 17, 1789. He was brought up on the farm, acquiring his schooling in his native town. He followed farming for his occupation and owned a large and productive farm in Winchendon. He enlisted in the War of 1812 with 7 others in what was called the South Company with the rank of sargeant, but Governor STRONG would not consent to have the Company go beyond the bounds of Worcester County. He was prominent in town affairs, was Selectman in 1844, 1847, 1848, was Assessor and Overseer of the poor. He was one of the committee chosen by the town to build a town house on April 15, 1850. He was an active and prominent member of the First Parish Congregational Church. He died May 9, 1868. He married on March 20, 1815 at Winchendon to Sophia GREENWOOD, who was born July 16, 1793 and died Dec. 23, 1866. She was the daughter of Thomas and Deborah (BARBER) GREENWOOD of Winchendon. Her father was a prominent man in town affairs and a farmer. Children of Levi and Sophia (GREENWOOD) RAYMOND were: #1 Deborah T. born Oct. 22, 1815, died Nov. 23, 1835 #2 Sophia born Sept. 14, 1817,married James CHENEY on April 13, 1837 #3 Mary Ann born Jan. 28, 1820 #4 George B., see forward #5 Eliza J. born Oct. 28, 1824, married A. HASTINGS on May 9, 1850 #6 Harriet F. born Sept. 28, 1827, married on April 28, 1848 to J.T.WOODBURY #7 Lucinda A. born Jan 17, 1830, married to A.WILEY on June 7, 1868 #8 Nancy born April 14, 1832 and died Aug. 19, 1866, she married on Dec. 17, 1862 to A.WILEY #9 Sarah E. born June 25, 1835, died Dec. 1, 1861, married April 21, 1858.
