STANSTEAD PIONEER'S MEMORIAL Excerpt from The Little Red Journal vol. 5 1973 (STANSTEAD HISTORICAL SOCIETY) Pages 36 & 37. Perched high on DUFFERIN HEIGHTS, about four miles north of Stanstead is a monument dedicated to the men and women who redeemed this area from the wilderness. Designed by Orson Wheeler and constructed by a group of history-conscious citizens headed by B. B. Morrill, T. Lee Quinby, A. E. Curtis and Homer G. Curtis, the monument was finally completed and dedicated in 1927. Since that time the wind and weather have worn away the original concrete and masonry to the point where repairs were necessary if it was to be preserved. Accordingly, last summer the Executive of the Stanstead Historical Society undertook these repairs at a cost of $650.00. Some donations have already been made to relieve the Historical Society of this debt which it can ill afford at this time when a new home is being purchased. Any further donations would be gratefully received and may be forwarded to Mr. Donald Macfarlane, at Stanstead, or the President Mr. Arthur Curtis, Jr., at Rock Island.
