The farm came to him at his father's death. Later, in 1891, he bought the CLAIR farm of 80 acres, situated just below his place. He was a substantial citizen and a man of influence. He attended the Baptist Church before the war, but in later years was a Congregationalist. In politics he was a stanch Republican and was frequently elected delegate to nominating cinventions. He was a road surveyor of the town of Holden and a member of the school committee. He belonged to the Holden Grange, Patrons of Husbandry, #140, Theron E. HALL Post, #77 G.A.R. of Holden. He married (1st) at Holden on Jan. 20, 1847 t Lucy Ann FULLER, born Jan. 20, 1827 at Holden, daughter of Ebenezer and Eunice (ROGERS) FULLER of Holden. Her father was a farmer.Mr. HUBBARD married (2nd) on Oct. 18, 1870 to Sophronia Rosetta SAWYER, born at Holden on Jan. 10, 1840, daughter of Charles and Margaret (MAYNARD) SAWYER of Holden. BIGELOW and had one son, Maurice Hubbard BIGELOW, born Oct. 25, 1903 at New Haven, where they now live. #2 Laura May BIGELOW born Dec. 24, 1890. Fernando Cortez BIGELOW died Feb. 28, 1899 and his widow Mary Newton (HUBBARD) BIGELOW married (2nd) on Jan. 21, 1902 to Edward L. ELLIOT of Worcester and their children were: Florence Mary ELLIOT born June 3, 1889, died Jan. 20, 1891 and Edna Louise ELLIOT born Nov. 21, 1893; plus a son Everett James ELLIOT born Sept. 11, 1895; #5 Edgar Stephen HUBBARD born Nov. 21, 1861, married Nov. 25, 1887 to Sarah Frances MILES of Rutland and their children are: Lucy Miles HUBBARD born Dec. 21, 1888, died at Bedford on June 28, 1895; Walter Edgar HUBBARD born at Somerville on Dec. 8, 1891 and Joseph Stephen HUBBARD born at Bedford on Nov. 29, 1898, all living at Bedford, Mass.
