    3. (IX) Colonel Joseph Denny SARGENT, son of Joseph SARGENT (VIII) was born Jan. 7, 1787 and died May 24, 1849. He was a representative in the general court in 1846. He resided in Leicester. He married April 16, 1818 to Mindwell JONES, daughter of Phineas JONES, she was born April 5, 1792 and died Feb. 6, 1851. His children were: #1 Harrison Jones, born Jan 10, 1819, married Nov. 9, 1849 to Sarah A. GRIFFIN, who was born Nov. 6, 1832, daughter of John GRIFFIN, resided at Newnan, Georgia and had 10 children; #2 Sophia, born May 8, 1821, married June10, 1842 to William BOGGS; #3 Joseph B., born Dec. 14, 1822, married Jan 17, 1848 to Elizabeth Collier LEWIS, married (2nd) to Florence Von KARAJAN, he was Mayor of New Haven and president of SARGENT & Co., hardware manufacturers; #4 Lucy Baldwin, born Sept. 23, 1824, married Oct. 1, 1846 to E.W.RUPERT;#5 Mary Denny, born Nov. 10, 1827, died Dec. 3, 1827; #6 George H., born Oct 29. 1828, married Oct. 15, 1855 to Sarah C. SHAW, who was born March 18, 1831, daughter of John H. SHAW, resided in New York, had 3 children; #7 Edward, see forward . (X) Edward SARGENT, son of Col. Joseph Denny SARGENT (IX) was born March 25, 1832 in Leicester, Mass. He received his education in the Leicester schools and the Academy. In partnership with his brother Joseph B., he began the manufactre of hand cards at the "Brick Nadory" on May 1, 1854. On the first day of the year 1859 they received their brother George H. into the firm, and at the same time organized the SARGENT Hardware Commission House in NY, Ctiy. Mr. SARGENT was connected with this company through life. They built extensive works for the manufacture of hardware in New Haven, Conn., ad became the largest hardware company in the country. Mr. SARGENT passed his life at Leicester and was interested in everything related to the welfare of the place and contributed liberally to all public improvements. He was Selectman at Leicester several times and nominated as candidate for the State Legislature. Mr. SARGENT was much effected by the death of his wife, to whom he was devotedly attached, and survived her less than 2 years. He died Jan 29, 1883. He married Feb. 9, 1858 to Adelaide S. CONKLIN, daughter of Austin CONKLIN. She died Feb. 11, 1881. Their children were: Joseph Bradford, born June 14, 1859,married June 20, 1882 to Annie L. BISCO, who wa born June 15, 1862, daughter of John W. BISCO. hey resided in Newtonville, Mass. #2 Winthrop, born March 26, 1862, died Feb. 17, 1864; #3 Harry Edward, see forward. END of PART 6
