Dear Listers, I did grow up in this area.This is about how I earned some of my money as a teen. I had an UNCLE who lived at Madden Ave in Milford. This street is off of WEST street.I also had an AUNT who lived at BROOKSIDE Road in Upton. Two times a week my uncle would give me $5.00 to ride my bicycle to my aunts house in Upton for a visit. I had to go a specific way or NO money. I had to take a left turn out of Madden ave. and onto WEST Street. I had to go down West Street to a set of lights on CONGRESS St. Take a right turn onto CONGRESS st. AT the next set of lights I had to take a right turn ONTO ROUTE 16. I had to ride my bicycle on ROUTE 16 up to MENDON, which has a few very large hills....ON the way I would stop at the MENDON DRIVE IN to take a rest because the next hill was soooo large. AT that time Mendon Drive IN had quite a few amusement rides to put your children on BEFORE the movie started. There were swings and a slide and this ride you would have to PUSH the thing around about 10 or more times to get the Momenton started...Then you jumped on it for a complete dizzy spell as it went around till it stopped. I probally stayed there 15 minutes for a rest BUT I rode those rides for the 15 minutes. Then I would continue up Route 16 to the lights, on the right was Taft ORCHIDS. I would take a right turn onto North Avenue and continue on North Avenue past the CLOUGH School and at the time Mendon Upton Regional High School. And I would continue on till I came to a fork in the road in UPTON...Of which I took a right turn and continued on to PICCADILLY Stree(tor lane). I took a right turn onto PICCADILLY street for about a quarter mile and took a left turn onto BROOKSIDE where I stopped at my Aunt Bess's house and she would give me $5.00. SO 2 times a week I earned $10.00...PLus I had babysitting jobs and Ironing for people...While I was going to high school....ONLY the first 2 years until I got a social security number.
