    3. (3) Benjamin GOODALE, son of Zachariah (2) was born in Salem, MA about 1685. He married Hannah ___. His will dated 26 Feb 1754 was proved April 15th following. The will mentions no wife. He made bequeaths to sons, Phinehas, Edward, Benjamin (executor); daughter Ruth GARY and Sarah GARY and the children of his late daughter Elizabeth HATHORN. Children of Benjamin & Hannah were: 1 Elizabeth, b 26 Feb 1711, m 30 Apr 1730, Ebenezer HATHORN 2 Phineas, b 1 May 1713, m 1733, Rebecca BRUCE of Woburn 3 Edward --See Forward-- 4 Hannah, b 3 May 1717, m John TAINTOR 5 Mary, b 30 Apr 1719, m Josiah HOWE 6 Ruth, b 10 Jul 1721, m 16 Apr 1741, Joseph GARY of Princeton 7 Benjamin, b 7 May 1723, , died young 8 Sarah, b 1 Jul 1726, m Aaron GARY 9 Benjamin (2), b 7 Oct 1728 ----------------------------------------------- (4) Edward GOODALE, son of Benjamin (3) was born in Salem, MA 23 May 1715. He settled in Shrewsbury in that part that is now West Boylston, MA. He died there in 1756 and his real estate was divided, 7 Oct 1766, among his heirs. He married 1738, Sarah TEMPLE. She was appointed guardian of the minor children. The following is extracted from the history of West Boylston: " Mrs. Sarah GOODALE, relict of Edward GOODALE, one of the early settlers, was born in Marlborough, 1714, and died here in 1810 in her 97th year. She had been a resident of w. Boylston nearly 80 years. She was a robust, vigorous, industrious, and frugal woman. Her husband died when about 40 years of age, leaving her with 6 children. She brought up her family and retained the farm, which she carried on successfully. By her industry and economy attended by the blessing of God se was enabled to award to each of her children their just proportion of their father's estate, while at the same time she herself had become the bonafide owner of the homestead." These children all lived to old age and in their turn manifested a filial respect for their honored mother by extending the same dutiful care to her during the latter portion of her life which she bestowed on them while in childhood and early years. She was a member of the church and a very religious woman. Children of Edward and Sarah (TEMPLE) GOODALE were: 1 Moses, b Shrewsbury (Boylston District) 9 Sep 1739, died 1815; m Silence W. GOODNOW 2 Elizabeth, b 13 Mar 1740/1, m 16 Dec 1767 to Robert SMITH of Worcester, she died 1837 3 Aaron --See Forward-- 4 Peter, b 14 Feb 1744/5, died young 5 David, called th 4th son in the partiton papers, married Dorothy NEWTON, went to Oakland, ? and many of his descendants live in Maine 6 Paul, b 9 Mar 1746/7, died 1832; m Eunice LOVELL and had a large family.
