    3. Maureen - I didn't know they had lifeguards up by the Lakeview end. The man who owned the amusement area was named Shawn Green - his wife was Sheila, and someone told me was a dancer. They don't seem to be around this area now. If someone finds him, let me know - he would be able to tell all the merry go round folks about the carousel. It was sold to another defunct amusement park - Pleasure Island in Wakefield. Millie Mitchells changed hands several times, but today it is still a restaurant - Alicante Mediterranean Grill - very good, but not a casual place like Millie's was. 3. Lisa, I haven't thought about these things in YEARS. When I was younger, I took swimming lessons at P.Eugene Casey pool in Milford. I went as far as I could by 8th grade. So next would be a Lifesavers course.Of which at the time, they took you to Whites Beach in Mendon. They (testers) took you out in a row boat. You had to have your bathing suit on and A shirt over it with a sweatshirt and jeans and socks and sneakers on. Then you had to jump out of the rowboat and one of the testers would jump in the water and you had to take the person and turn them over and cuff your one arm UNDER their necks. And bring them into shore. So when I was in eigth grade I probably weighed about 70 lbs...if that...I was real thin. When I first jumped in the water...I was weighed down by the clothes...Then I had the instructer fighting me...because when someone is drowning...they fight you....I think I made it 2 times BUT on the 3rd try I went UNDER the water...THAT is a TOTAL FAIL...They told me to come back when I put a few pounds on. I remember the names of the people that owned Lakeview previously. They owned a dance Studio in Milford. It was called Lucier's School of Dance. They were Luciers BUT when she died...they said her maiden name was Palmer. Two of my daughters took swimming lessons at White's Beach. The side where Lakeview was had to close because of all the UNDER CURRENTS.I think there are natural springs UNDER the lake in Mendon. On the Whites Beach side they have it roped off as far as you can go out. Which isn't very far unless you own property on that side. Of which you can go out further. They also had an arts and craft along with the swimming lessons,in Mendon. 3. Maureen - There's one memory you probably would want to forget! The Casey pool is still there - just down from the Shaw's supermarket which used to be Iandoli when I first moved to Milford about 25 years ago. It would make sense that Lake Nipmuc is spring fed. I'll try to remember to ask my co-workers. One lives on the lake, and the other one's parents live there. One year, the Mendon children's librarian learned about a cardboard boat race some University did every year as part of a science course. Since then, they've been having one every year at the lake.
