Akers, M.D., was born on the 11th of November, 1856, at Granby, Mass. His parents were Joseph W. and Lucy A. Akers. He attended Dartmouth Medical College, graduating in the class of 1884, and for one year previous to graduating was assistant physician in Doctor Ira Russell's 'Family Home', at Winchendon, Mass., a private retreat for the treatment of nervous and mental diseases and the alcohol and opium habits. There was an F. W. Russell listed as a physician in the 1890-91 Winchendon City Directoy. 1930 Gardner City Directory shows Gardner City Infirmary, Winchendon Rd, n Town Line There was also a State Colony for the Insane in Gardner, which I believe is on the Gardner/Winchendon line.
