I am looking for information on the following family: James Coates, of Lynn and Dudley, married in Lynn (intention 27 Sept 1724) Martha Rhoods, born in Lynn 20 Feb 1702-3, daughter of Henry Rhoods and Elizabeth. He later moved to Dudley, Worchester County, Mass. Nothing is known of his parentage, although it is possible that he is a member of the third generation of one of the two famlies already mentioned. He is probably the same James who married, first, in Boston, 21 July 1715, Hannah Payn. Children born in Dudley: James b 4 March 1731 Eliphalet b 25 July 1734; m 29 Nov 1759 Susanna Turner Hannah, b 24 April 1737 Benjamin b 17 Jan 1744; m in 1770 Esther Marsh, daughter of Jonathan Marsh. Benjamin moved to Newfane, Windham County, VT in 1780 Hezekiah, b 8 Feb 1747; m about 1790 Mrs. Rachel Wood widow of Jonah Wood I am particularly interest in the son James as well born 1731.
