My dear mother passed away in 1999. Now that I am doing genealogical research (and even if I wasn't!) I wish I had asked her more questions! My mother talked a lot about living in Oakham when she was young. She mentioned having goats, named "Nelly" and "Elly" or something similar to that--rhymed with "elly". Where should I go to find information about this? My mother was born in 1934. I'm not sure what town she was born in. I grew up in Worcester. Her name was "Fitzpatrick." Margie
Margie.... There are probably many ways to answer you question...My personal experience includes: 1. Calling or visiting the Oakham town hall and ask questions. 2. Visit the Mass Archives/Vital Statistics site in Boston. This site will have all records that pertain to your Mom and other family members (u too). There are 2 sites..One is for 1911 and before (Archives) and the other 1911 to present (Vital Statistics.). Plan on spending a few hours at either or both sites (across the street from each other). I would suggest the Vital Statistics site to find the info you seem to be looking for. Birth, Marriage, Divorce, and Death records are there. It cost $3 / hour / person to look over the records and more to have copies made. I would suggest you try out #1 above and then plan a day trip to Boston for #2. You will find allot of information on your family there. Let me know if you want driving instructions. Good Luck.
