    1. [MAWORCES] Mt. Zion Cemetery, Webster, MA - Help with Civil War marker mystery
    2. Beckie Thomas
    3. My great-great grandparents are buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Webster, MA. My great-great grandfather was Andrew Korch (Kovalcik). According to the gravestone, he was born in 1867 and died in 1939. He obviously did not fight in the Civil War, since he wasn't even born. His year of immigration from Austria to the United States was 1889. Next to his gravestone is a G.A.R. marker. There are no other stones close to that marker, but there appears to be enough plots for more than two people to be buried there. I am guessing that other family members are buried there without stones. Is there any way to find out who the G.A.R. marker is supposed to be for? Does anyone know how to contact someone at Mt. Zion Cemetery? They don't seem to have a web site. This is a link to a photo of the stone and marker: http://www.greenerpasture.com/genes/images/korch_andrew_elizabeth.jpg Thanks in advance!

    3. A few years back I helped a member of our list with his PEASLEE/PEASLEY ancestors. I wanted to let him know that the above named woman died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 and that her obituary is on today's Bangor Daily News website, if he cares to investigate. She was the daughter of Ivory M. and Grace (GRAY) PEASLEY, born March 26, 1931.

    2. Hi:I looked up George read the signer on WIKIPEDIA. It seems he had a son John but the family was from the Maryland/Deleware area which is remote from MA. More work need to find your John. Do you have names of wife and children and when they went to Canada? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Read_(signer)

    1. [MAWORCES] Read family
    2. I am researching our Read family genealogy and am trying to connect my John George Read with the George Read who signed the Declaration of Independance. The family lore is that we are related. John George Read was born c 1824, the census' say he was born in MA, which I assume is Massachusetts, and his Ontario death certificate indicates that he was born in Worcester. I cannot find a birth record for him in the Massachusetts Vital Records Online and am wondering if anyone can give me some suggestions. Linda Urquhart Windsor, Ontario, Canada

    1. [MAWORCES] NEHGS and "Image not available"
    2. Sue Richart
    3. Greetings, The new NEHGS website is up, but there are a few of problems with the MVR 1841-1910 on-line database. For all of you, for some reason the "image not available" presentation isn't showing and you might think one is there and it isn't. The second problem, the search criteria doesn't account for beginning and ending years, meaning it is returning all entries for a name. There may be more issues with search, but I haven't done enough to spot them. The third problem is the three of us that repair the database from home, John Ledden, Dale Cook, and I, can't see the field we use to correct the database. They have come up with a workaround for us, but that means we aren't looking at the same website presentation you are. They are working on it, but don't have an actual repair time set. As always, when you see the Mr. Sid logo come up, go ahead and email me and I'll take a look. Sue Richart NEHGS Volunteer We are supposed to have spring show up this weekend in the Inland Northwest, but after having the second snowiest winter on record, I'm skeptical.

    3. Hi, Judy, The 1920 census shows at the top of the page that all these people were in Leeks & Watts Orphan House on Hawthorne Avenue, Yonkers, Westchester, NY. She was single, born in NY; her parents were also born in NY. She was a teacher. It doesn't seem as if she could be the one you are seeking as her age doesn't match your person. She was listed as an 'inmate'. As I looked at the other people most were listed as 'inmates' however, there were small children some as young as 4 years old also listed as an inmate. Some of them didn't seem to be connected to an adult and others appeared to be whole families, mother and father and children. I was wondering if anyone has come upon this and can tell me more about it. Was it a prison? A Jail? 1. [MAWORCES] looking for death information for Jennie Patterson of Milford, sometimes after 1880.
    2. Laura Callier
    3. Hello, I am looking for information, or advice as to where to search, for Jennie(Jane) Patterson of Milford MA. I have been told by my family that she died and was never married. She is listed in the 1880 census as being 15 years old and living with her widowed mother Lavina Jane Patterson, her brother Marcus J. (my great grandfather) and her grandmother Charlotte (Aldrich )Jones. I do know that the household moved out of Milford by 1895 and went to Colorado, and she was not with them, so she would have died by 1895. I am not sure how to search for death notices, etc. for her. I would appreciate it if anyone has such resources and could check them for me, or could let me know where to look for such information. Thanks, Laura Callier

    1. [MAWORCES] Howard Rinehart Rogers
    2. Andy Andrelczyk
    3. Can anyone help with the following request? I have a relative, Howard Rinehart Rogers, who was born in Parkerford, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Some time between 1910 and 5 June 1917 he moved to Worcester, MA. Some time between 1910 and 5 June 1917 he also married. The source of the information is his WWI Draft Registration Card. He has not been found in 1920. In 1930 he is back in PA (Philadelphia), his wife's name is Lorraine and she emigrated in 1916. So............here is what I suspect. Some time between 1910 and 5 June 1917 Howard went to MA for work, Lorraine emigrated in 1916 (probably to MA), they married in 1916 or 1917.......probably in Worcester MA......then moved back to Pennsylvania by 1930. Is there a way to check the Worcester MA marriage records for those dates to see if there is a Howard Rogers listed? Howard worked for a Bert Metcalf as a house painter & decorator. He lived at 604 Main St. Worcester MA. Any help appreciated. Andy

    1. [MAWORCES] Telechron
    2. Hi listers, I worked a Telechron much later and I believe the Worcester plant was at 2 Main Street. I remember seeing a picture of vacuum tubes produced at Warrren Telechron during the war. War contracts were quite lucrative and there was lots of money to be made if you had the equipment and space. Henry Warren started off built synchronizers for the grid. This branched out into the production of synchronous motors and their related clocks and timers. They were eventually bought out by the folks who bring good things to life ...... General Electric. The Worcester building was eventually closed and all production was moved to Ashland, MA. Jon Normandin Burlington, Vermont. **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. 1. [MAWORCES] What killed Achsah T. Wilder, 1817-1839
    2. Vital Records Project
    3. Good morning, everyone. :-) While getting the Templeton records ready to go online, I found this in the marriages: WHITE, Jonathan Jr. of Hadley and Achsah T. Wilder, int. Oct. 30, 1839. [No certificate given in consequence of the death of Miss Wilder.] These always get my curiosity up. I looked in the deaths. The first question, what took this young woman's life, isn't answered. But, a second more puzzling question comes up. WILDER, Achsa T., Oct. 13, 1839, a. 22. CR Her death pre-dates the intentions by 17 days. The more important question would be what are the correct dates? Second, what was the cause of death? If anyone can help, it'd be appreciated. The second question is just curiosity. Thank you.
