Thank you John & Jodi. This information is extremely helpful. I tried downloading the images but came up with an error message. It's not a big deal, doing research for a cousin. Now that I have the information and Mass Vital Record volume and page numbers, if can request a copy from Mass Archives or City Hall. Thank you again for all the wonderful work and guidance you provide for us. The Other Cheryl In a message dated 6/13/2008 9:26:47 A.M. Good afternoon, Jackie. I needed a break from the Barnstable records. :-)) Olive was born in Sterling, Worcester Co. The Sterling VRs were published in 1976 and are under copyright. We will try to get permission to use the images when we transcribe Sterling. At this time, the images we have are from the S&R CD. Pathetic. Olive Nelson Flagg was b. Aug. 22, 1820, in Sterling, to Rufus and Catherine Flagg. (page 21) Rufus Flagg m. Katy Brown on Mar. 28, 1809, in Sterling. Both were of Sterling. (Sterling VRs, page 71) Olive married Albert Tolman on Aug. 1, 1861, in Worcester, Worcester Co. She was 41 and it was her 1st marriage. Albert was 52 and a Carriage Manuf. He was born in Lincoln. (MA State Archives, Vol. 146, p. 239) Olive d. in Worcester on Oct. 10, 1874, a. 55 y. 1 m. 10 d., of heart disease. Shown as married. (MA State Archives, Vol. 287, p. 424) Lookups done on NEHGS. Images of marriage and death records saved. You can get these images and the pages from the Sterling VRs at: http://MA-VitalRecords.org/Flagg/OliveFlagg_Marriage.sid http://MA-VitalRecords.org/Flagg/OliveFlagg_Death.sid http://MA-VitalRecords.org/Flagg/Sterling_B021.gif http://MA-VitalRecords.org/Flagg/Sterling_M071.gif Note: Both of the .sid images are over 3MB. Dear Janice: I cannot thank you enough for sending this to me. It is invaluable in sorting out where certain records might be found. As always, what you do for the rest of the genealogical community is absolutely amazing. We can only hope that you will go on forever in your work. As other members have listed, you are most probably looking for Danielson, Windham County, CT. In the 1930 census, Loretta Mains & Mary Stevens are living together in Brooklyn, Windham, CT and in 1910, Loretta Mains and her mother Eliza Gates are living in Killingly, Windham, CT. In a message dated 6/3/2008 10:07:34 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, dktrearchis@comcast.net writes: Has anyone heard of Danielson, MA? I tried googling this town, but could not find it. I looked up the towns in the Quabbin and it is not one of those towns. I'm wondering if it is now a section of some town. For example, Dracut has a section of town that is called Collinsville and in the past people would just refer to a person as being from Collinsville not Dracut. I found mention of this in a newspaer: Sister Loretta Gates Whitney died in Sep 1936. In obituary it said “she leaves a sister Mrs. Mary Stevens of Danielson.” The person I am researching is Mary E. (Gates) Stevens born and died in Westminster,MA. Her funeral was in Gardner,MA and she married my ancester who was Israel Jacob Stevens who called himself Ij Stevens or I. James Stevens. He died in 1899. I sent a thank you to everyone privately, but just wanted to let everyone know I did get an answer to this one. If anyone is working on this Benton family, I would be happy to share what I know about Marie's family. Neziah B. Benton, born Feb 17, 1866 at Leominster s/o Frank C. Benton born Newbury, MA and Loretta C. Betters of Philadelphia Married June 15 1893, Leominster, MA to Marie Dezotell/Desautels born June 1865, Burlington, VT d/o Joseph Dezotell/Desautels and Julie Lesperance Marie was married first to Mr. Savery. This would have been possibly in VT but most likely in CT. Thanks again to everyone who helped me out on this one. The only Danielson town I know of is the town in CT. just over the MA. border. **************Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food. (http://food.aol.com/tyler-florence?video=4?&NCID=aolfod00030000000002)
I believe that is named for a family that once occupied the land there. I live very close to there and have done genealogy here for 40 years and have never come across a town or area named Danielson, except on the Ma. border with CT. I bet that is what they are looking for. Helen
There is a Danielson Pond in/near Medfield, Norfolk Co. NEGHS Vol 435, page 435 item 49, married June 15 at Leominster Neziah B. Benton, residing Leominster, 27, cabinet maker, born Leo, Frank C. & Loretta C. Bitters, 1st marriage Mary J. Savery (maiden name Dezetoll), residing Leominster,17, shirt maker , born Burlington VT, Joseph & Julia Lesprance Dezetoll, 2nd marriage Vol: 188 ; Page: 195 N. Bitters Benton born Feb 17, 1866 at Leominster to Frank and Loretta, Frank is comb maker, born W. Newbury, Loretta born Philadelphia. Vol: 164 ; Page: 184 Frank C. Benton, 23, and Loretta C. Bitters 20, were married Jan 4, 1863 at Leominster, where he was residing, she was from Philadelphia PA., he was born Newbury, MA, parents Henry & Miranda, she was born Philly, parents Lorenzo C. and Sarah. Frank died 1898. I looked to see if there were other Dezetolls in the VR on NEHGS, but there are none, nor is there a death for a Savery who might be Mary's first husband. So to the Census: 1930, Naziah B. Benton and wife Mary J., both 64, found in Leominster. She is listed as born VT, parents Canada, French. her age at first marriage is 15. 1900, Naziah B. Benton, born Feb 1866, 24, m. 7 yrs, MA, MA, PA Mary J. Benton, born June 1865, 34, m 7 yrs, 2 children, 1 living, VT, parents Canada/Fr Mary L. Savery born Sep 1881, 18, single, born CT, father Canada, French, mother VT, shirtmaker This at least gives you Mary's parents and their origins, plus a probable nativity and marriage for Mary's first husband.
