Dear Jackie: Is there some way you could narrow down the location in MA to a specific county? I have the CD series for the whole state up to 1850, but they are divided by county and I'm not inclined to hunt through all of the different CD's. A few of the records do go beyond 1850, so I'll look if you can put me in the proper county. Happy Hunting! Allan E. Green In a message dated 8/4/2008 3:01:47 A.M. CLINTON BEAGARY to FRANK K. M. REHM regarding meeting him to show him his paintings. (October 5, 1949 from HARVEY CEDARS address) (October 30, 1949 from HARVEY CEDARS, Long Beach Island, NJ address (December 15, 1949 from HARVEY CEDARS, Long Beach Island, NJ address) He enclosed 2 newspaper clipping with letters. Beach Haven Times December 15, 1949 ISLAND ARTIST CONDUCTING SHOW IN PHILADELPHIA Works of H. CLINTON BEAGARY to be on Display at Art Alliance Through Dec. 24 H. CLINTON BEAGARY of Philadelphia and Harvey Cedars, is having an exhibition of his works at the Philadelphia Art Alliance, 251 South 18th Street, through Saturday, December 24th. MR. BEAGARY is recognized as one of Philadelphia's foremost artists and is very well known throughout the island. In an article by C. H. BONTE, the Philadelphia Inquirer made the following comment concerning MR. BEAGARY's works: With the popularity achieved by surrealism, and the public's familiarity with that descriptive compound word, there may be an illogical inclination to give that designation to such of the BEAGARY output as "Cagliostros' Secret," "Intricate Indecision" and "The Skull," the last-named not at all macabre, but as gay over-all as the rest of the pictures by this artist. His feeling for the humors inherent in the animal world is noted in "berceuse," with a lion as sleeping baby beneath a wonderfully designed quilt, and "The Captive Bututta," a delightful feathered comedy, not so funny perhaps to the string-tied bird. Especially rich in oriental imagery (continued on page five) (note: but missing from collection. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Philadelphia Inquirer December 4, 1949 LEAR and BEAGARY Hold Exhibitions Of Paintings of Unusual Imagination By C. H. BONTE (Note: excerpting parts about BEAGARY from article) Two Philadelphia artists of amazing imaginations and great gifts of improvisation are having one-man exhibitions at the Art Alliance and what each has to offer is of such a character as to cause unusual emotional reactions. The men are JOHN LEAR and H. CLINTON BEAGARY, work by the former being quite familiar of late in many galleries, while BEAGARY, a product of this city and largely self-taught, has been infrequently represented recently in those places where art lovers most do congregate. BEAGARY FANTASIES The seriousness and the intimated grimness of the LEAR art and social philosophy are absent from the pictures of CLINTON BEAGARY, whose fantasies are set in some never never land where fairies, elves and leprechauns carry on their merry activities without regard for atomic message or propaganda. In both oil and gouache his coloring is rich and impressive, his designs bold and of great carrying power, with areas of plastic painting, in heavily-draped fabrics, which are fairly stunning in their impact upon the eye. With the popularity achieved by surrealism, and the public's familiarity with that descriptive compound word, there may be an illogical inclination to give that designation to such of the BEAGARY output as "Cagliostro's Secret," "Intricate Indecision," and "The Skull," the last named not at all macabre, but as gay over-all as the rest of the pictures by the artist. His feeling for the humors inherent in the animal world is noted in "Berceuse," with a lion as sleeping baby beneath a wonderfully designed quilt, and "The Captive Batutta," a delightful feathered comedy, not so funny perhaps to the string-tied bird. A SUBTLE TRAVESTY Especially rich in oriental imagery is "the Ancient Temple" and evidently with tongue in cheek BEAGARY has painted "The Psychiatrist," with the "professor" ready to consult his "Olde Dame's Dreme Book," the whole scene given special power and effect for the use of huge, decorative stone figures akin to those which have puzzled travelers to Easter Island in the Pacific. As proof that he is able to take hints from nature, as well as from his own strongly operative imagination, the artist offers several "straight" landscapes of outstanding beauty, including "August Morning," "To the Lighthouse," "Evening in the Flats" and "The Lonesome Place." Also admirable are the group of undersea pictures, with their shimmering color and light schemes and the semi-fanciful moonlight episodes, with special delight stirred by "The Widow Who Could Cook." ============================================================================== ======== _http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=50000&iid=86342258&pid= 912758&ssrc=&fn=&ln=beagary&st=g_ (http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=View&r=an&dbid=50000&iid=86342258&pid=912758&ssrc=&fn=&ln=beagary&st=g) Historical Newspapers, Birth, Marriage, & Death Announcements, 1851-2003 > Obituary > New York, New York > 1952 H. Platoon Sergeant U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, JOSEPH RODOLPH JULIAN, born 3 April 1918, Sturbridge, MA. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as a P/Sgt serving with the 1st Batallion, 27th Marines, 5th Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces during the seizure of Iwo Jima in the Volcano Islands, 9 March 1945. Determined to force a breakthrough when Japanese troops occupying trenches and fortified positions on the left front laid down a terrific machinegun and mortar barrage in a desperate effort to halt his company's advance P/Sgt JULIAN quickly established his platoon's guns in strategic supporting positions, and then, acting on his own initative, fearlessly moved forward to execute a 1-man assault on the nearest pillbox. Advancing alone, he hurled deadly demolitions and white phosphorous grenades into the emplacement, killing 2 of the enemy and driving the remaining 5 out into the adjoining trench system. Seizing a discarded rifle, he jumped into the trench and dispatched the 5 before they could make an escape. Intent on wiping out all resistance, he obtained more explosives and, accompanied by another marine, again charged the hostile fortifications and knocked out 2 more cave positions. Immediately thereafter, he launched a bazooka attack unassisted, firing 4 rounds into the 1 remaining pillbox and completely destroying it before he fell, mortally wounded by a vicious burst of enemy fire. Stout hearted and indomitable, P/Sgt JULIAN consistently disregared all personal danger and, by his bold decision, during tactics, and relentless fighting spirit during a critical phase of the battle, contributed materially to the continued advance of his company and to the success of his division's operations in the sustained drive toward the conquest of this fiercely defended outpost of the Japanese Empire. His outstanding valor and unfaltering spirit of self-sacrifice throughout the bitter conflict sustained and enhanced the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country. ****************************************** Taken from the book titled "Congressional Medal of Honor Recipients" and their Official Citations, 4th Edition, page 397 or visit: www.homeofheroes.com SALUTE !!!

Jacki, I didn't get the Lizard Tech logo, but also didn't get the image either. I'll ask Sam to digitize the microfilm page. He was been pretty good about getting them done in a couple of days. I'll email you off list when I get it. Of note, when I complained about the speed of the server today (it took me 30 minutes to connect 45 entries instead of the usual ten minutes) Sam said the the website speed, or lack thereof, has the attention of the folks that control the purse strings at NEHGS and there will be improvements coming. I hope so. Clicking on a field and waiting 20 plus seconds to see the cursor show up is pushing the limits of my patience and my satellite's internet service provider's parameters, so I get disconnected at least a half dozen times in the middle of fixing a page . The 20 plus second delay happens every step of the way when connecting or correcting an entry. That, and losing a few days of effort when they reset the database because of the hacker attacks a bit ago was very demoralizing. I'm just getting time to go back and re-do those entries. At least there is some hope of improvement. Sue On Mon, Jul 28, 2008 at 4:10 PM, <theclown16 wrote: > Jacki: > Image not linked. According to son ROBERT CARLETON ROSE's obituary, his mother's maiden name was IDA W. HOLMES. (Assuming the W. stood for WINNIFRED) I would love a birth look up for her (b. Oct 1889 according to 1900 census) and marriage for her parents MARTIN D. HOLMES & IDA F. unknown. First listed child in 1900 census born June 1879, so marriage before that.
