    3. Found in book: "A Historical record of the soldiers and sailors of N. Brookfield...1861-1865, with regimental histories" Anonymous, Town of N. Brookfield; 1886, 71 pgs. pages: 69, 70, 71 The Soldiers' Monument, which stands upon the grounds of the First Congregational Society, was contracted for with Martin Milmore, of Boston, erected in 1869, and publicly dedicated Jan 19, 1870. Hon. Charles Adams, Jr., chairman of the Committee, presented the monument to the town, and Dr Warren Tyler, chairman of the Selectmen, accepted the same in the town's behalf. The Oration was delivered by Gen. Francis A. Walker, and followed by Adresses by His Excellency Gov. William Claflin and Gen. Charles Devens. The statue is of a private soldier at parade rest, with downcast face, suggestive of the whole mournful story connected with the fall of the brave ones whose names are cut on the tablets beneath. The statue is of granite, seven feet high, and stands on a plinth eight feet high. It cost $5,500. The town contributed $3,000, the Grand Army of the Republic $500, and private citizens $2,000. On the north side is the following inscription: ERECTED....by the Town of North Brookfield, ....IN HONOR OF HER ...SOLDIERS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES...in defense of the...COUNTRY AGAINST THE REBELLION, ... 1861-65 The back of the block presents only a plain surface, while the remaining sides are inscribed with the names of the dead, in the following order: EAST SIDE: N.B. 2. Vital Records Project
    3. Here's a bit more, Fred. Sylvanus's parents' birth places were not given on his death record. The record had that Sylanus died in Dudley and was buried in Sturbridge. Looking for marriages, I found both of these in Sturbridge: Sylvanus m. Nancy Wolley on Sept. 28, 1855 in Sturbridge. She was 35 and born in New York City. Her father was William Wolley. Mother isn't given. Her first marriage. On Apr. 28, 1861, he m. Hattie E. Felton. She was of Stowe (sic). She was 38 and born in Stowe. Her parents were Isaac and Susanna Bliss. This was her second marriage. On this record, Sylvanus's birth place is given as Sturbridge. His age is given as 56. That doesn't quite match with the death record. I found Nancy's death. Here's the record: Nancy A. Stone, a. 40 y. 4 m. d. Mar. 18, 1861 of consumption. Her father was William Woolsey. (Different from above.) I looked at every Stone birth in both Dudley and Sturbridge from 1855 to 1888 and could not find any to Sylvanus. Do you have any other information on the children you have attributed to Nancy and Harriet (Hattie)? Maybe I missed them. 3. Hello, Fred. From Sylvanus's death record, his parents are Parley & Amy. He was born in Dudley, Worcester. He died of Chronic Cystitis at the age of 83 y. 9 m. 10 d. on June 26, 1888. He was married, so his last wife must have still been alive. The Dudley VRs to 1850 have been started but not transcribed. All of the images are online and linked from the surname pages. Sylvanus does not appear in the records. However, he does have some siblings. Also, his parent's marriage is listed. The marriage has Perley and Anna Smith. They married on Nov. 5, 1793. 1. [MAWORCES] Mary E. Graham
    2. Hi folks: I need HELP! I'm still looking for help with Mary E. Graham born March 1826 in Massachusetts and died in Sardis, Burke County, Georgia. She married Caleb Murray, also born in 1826 but in Screven County, Georgia and died 12/22/1863 in Fulton County, Georgia. Mary's parents were Anson Graham and Lucy Claflin. Mary and Caleb had 5 children, one of whom was Henry Elias Murray, born 8/29/1850. I would like to fill in as much as possible about both Mary and Caleb' life, brothers and sisters and their migration to various places. Paul Simkins oceans351@bellsouth.net

    1. [MAWORCES] Baird Family - WPA Records in Worcester
    2. Sorry, thanks to degennaro, I realized I didn't get forwarded an original email that had the wrong MAWORCES address. This is what I intended: Ancestry has listed for several years a "Guide to the Manuscript Collections in the Worcester Historical Society" which in the Table of Contents Part ll, reports on page 21: "There are on deposit about 500 pieces of manuscripts relating to the genealogy of members of the following families, most of whom, were Worcester residents: Aldrich, Allen . . . . . . Baird, etc. .......Series of papers on estates of early Worcester settlers and their descendants with genealogical notes". The Worcester Historical Society's Robyn Christensen responded she remembers these some 20 years ago but they no longer have these papers, and she doesn't know what happened to them. I have corresponded with the MA State Library, MA State Archives, Worcester County Public Library, Worcester Antiquarian Society, and NEGHS. No one claims any knowledge of these collections. Please, does anyone have any knowledge or suggestions? I'm convinced there must be boxes of these archives someplace. I am looking for the origins of Thomas and Elisabeth Baird who bought property in Leicester in 1735. He was listed as a Worcester resident (together with James Hart) and John Kathan of Roxbury on the deed from Richard Southgate, one of the 50 original owners of the Leicester land. This portion became Ward/Auburn later. There were four generations of Thomas Bairds who owned the property in Leceister/Auburn. Thomas Baird # I 's son Daniel was a selectman in Worcester and his daughter Betsey married a Wesson. It is, of course, possible that the genealogy in the manuscripts began with Daniel. Many thanks for any help Joan Lowry Carmel, CA **************Nothing says I love you like flowers! Find a florist near you now. 1. [MAWORCES] BURTON, Stephen b 1777-1778 or b 1780, early settler of Mendon, Worcestor Co MA
    2. Apparently Stephen BURTON was an early settler in Mendon, Worcestor County, MASS. Stephen BURTON born either 1780 or between 1777-1778 However do have him born in Mendon, Monroe County, New York, but believe that might be an error, according to MASS information in this county that he was an early settler in Mendon, MASS. Stephen married Betsy or Betsey GATES (??? if her surname is GATES), born in 1781 ? where One of his sons' names we do know is: Marvin BURTON born April 14, 1805. We believe that Marvin BURTON may have been a cousin to our Roswell W. BURTON born 1794 possibly in New York but states his father was born in Rhode Island in a couple of census records. We are looking for ancestors of Roswell W. BURTON, siblings of Stephen BURTON, who could have been Roswell's father. (eventually both Roswell W. BURTON & Marvin BURTON settled in Yates, Orleans County, New York). Roswell W. BURTON married Hulda (Huldah) COLE (we have her COLE information). Hulda aka Huldah COLE was born June, 1791 in New Ashford, Berkshire County, MASS. Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide on Stephen BURTON, siblings for example.
