    1. [MAWORCES] Webster Times in 1861.
    2. Patti Smith
    3. Hello listers, I just received a newspaper article about my ancestor, who in 1954, according to the article, was "breaking up" his home in Webster since he was going to be moving to Fl to retire. The headline reads: "Extra"-President Lincoln Assassinated-Herald, 1865" Everett Gray Breaking Up Home Finds Treasured Old Copies of TIMES and N.Y. Herald Story of "Abe's" Death" It is a very long article basically transcribing the entire front page of the Herald verbatem. Everett's father, Thomas Lyman Gray must have been the one who saved these since he was the one who served in the civil war from Worcester. One interesting thing I noted was that the oldest newspaper in he found was the Webster Times, July 27th, 1861. Thomas would have just turned 14 at that time. What is really interesting is that I never knew the whereabouts of Thomas between 1848 and 1865. I am guessing that the Webster area is probably where is was! Can anyone tell me if the Times, specifically July of 1861 is on microfilm? Maybe this newspaper was saved by Thomas for a special reason? I sure hope so! Also, the person who sent me this article took it from his scrap book and on the back there is a picture of Louise Hanon. It reads "Webster Nurse" "Louise Hanon, 21, of 28 First Street has completed a State Board examination as a registered nurse, etc....It is from May of 1955. Let me know if anyone is interested and I can email it. Thanks, Patti Patti

    2. Hi Jacqueline, Classical High School closed in the mid to late 1960s. The Worcester Public Library at Salem Square has an assortment of yearbooks from city schools. They are in the reference/local history area, but in a locked room, and must be requested for use. The library does allow photocopying. I go to Worcester occasionally for research. I don't know when my next trip will be, but I can look up the 1910 yearbooks and photocopy for you, if you don't get any immediate responses to your request. Regards, Barbara Proko South Hadley, MA <<Hello there, I just learned from a letter that both my grandparents were in the graduating class of 1910 of CLASSICAL HIGH SCHOOL of Worcester, Worcester County, Massachusetts. I tried checking a Google search for this school but assume it is no longer operating. Wonder if anyone might have access to a yearbook for 1910 or have an idea where I might find one. Would love to get pictures (and related items) of my grandparents who I thought met each other much later than 1910. Grandfather: Raymond Field Russell B. 3. RE someone's question to me about putting dead relatives into Classmates.Com. Funny you should mention it, I have put my diciest dad ( 1888-1968) in my Classmates.Com, but its the WORK/EMPLOYEE section only that allows a different name. As I have allot of company info saved & also would like to hear from others who's dads worked same place. My dad founded the Wright Line Co. that is in Worcester back in 1930s & sold it to Mr. Wright ( BOLT > BOLT & WRIGHT > WRIGHT ) when it was only a very small company selling guide cards for early punch card computers. I have allready connected to other early 1900s Firestone workers ( kids of) . Dick in MD

    1. [MAWORCES] Helen Lynch in Leominster
    2. I am just posting this information for those who are researching the Lynch family. My 1st cousin (2 times removed) was Alexander P Joslin. He married a Helen Lynch in Leominster ca 1927. Helen M Lynch was born 24 Aug 1907 in Vermont to John and Mary Lynch. She died 17 Oct 1993 in Leominster, MA Helen's father was John Lynch was born ca 1879 in Ireland. His wife Mary was born ca 1876 in Ireland. They married about 1905 [possibly in Vermont or Ireland (have no information on location] John and Mary were still alive as of 1930 MA census. Helen's husband Alexander Joslin was born 30 July 1908 in Leominster. He died 13 Oct 1968 in Leominster. Alexander was the son of Edward W Joslin and "Exina" Betters. On the 1930 census Alexander and Helen are listed as living with Helen's parents. Also in the household were 2 sisters Isabella Lynch born abt 1909 in MA and Rebecca Lynch born about 1912 in MA. No children were born to Alexander and Helen by 1930 census time. No surviving children were mentioned in the obituary for Alexander in 1968, so I do not know if they ever had any children or not. I talked to Helen over the phone long distance over 20 years ago and I don't remember any mention of children. She was one of the last people alive that remembered by grandmother Eva Joslin Kirby who died in 1941.
