    3. Does anyone have any information about where in "Lower Canada" (Quebec) Peter WHITE came from. Peter was born 26 Jun 1821,married to Victoria Thibeault, also In Canada, I think. They had 14 children. He emigrated to St. Albans, VT in 1843, had two sons there, and is then found in Millbury, Worcester, MA until death in 1882. Thanks for any clues you may have.

    1. [MAWORCES] FW: 1870 or 1880 census index
    2. Craig
    3. Found him!!!! After many years of research, I finally decided to ask for some help! In a matter of about an hour, I found a long lost ancestor. In a very old family bible, I have the record of John B. Warren and his first wife Susannah Grigg and their children. This is a family record that has been with us since the mid 1800's. The record stated that John was born in 1802 but does not specify where. The births of his children are recorded in the bible as Cambridgeport and Malden MA. Several years ago, I discovered that John and his first wife were both born in Hampshire England. John was re-married in 1851 to an Irish woman, which took me a long time to find in the Massachusetts records because of his common name, after his first wife died in Malden and is also listed in the family bible and I found her death record at the archives. I decided to search for his re-marriage purely on a hunch. Without this information, I would have been searching for a widow named John B. Warren, not a married man with a wife from Ireland. There is also a pencilled date of May, 26 1883 written in a later hand, above the ink record for John B. Warren which I assumed to be his death although not recorded as any particular vital record. I could never find a death record in Massachusetts for him and the reasons are now clear. He must have moved to Maine between 1870 and 1880 (census recorded in Maine) and died there. Hopefully I can find the death record in the Maine archives. Anyway, after years of genealogical research, this may have been one of my most exciting finds because of the time I have been searching but the very simple way in which the results were found. Thanks to online census records and help from other researchers indexes. Never give up!!!!! 1. [MAWORCES] North Brookfield Cemetery
    2. Clyde Prior
    3. Would anyone have any information on where the North Brookfield Cemetery is located. I found it listed in a new book on a guide to Massachusetts Cemeteries. It says that it is located on Hill Road and Middle Street, but I cannot find those streets located on any map. Any information is appreciated. I know it isn't the Walnut Grove Cemetery because they also have that one listed. TIA. Cheryl

    1. [MAWORCES] WORCESTER LIBRARY DOESN'T HAVE COPIES OF YEARBOOKS
    2. Just wanted to let the list know that the Worcester Public Library wrote me that they do not have any yearbooks for CLASSICAL HIGH SCHOOL. Very disappointing. I am still hoping someone on this list might have one for the year 1910 or know someone who might. They sent me school lists they had on file with my grandparents listed as students at CLASSICAL but that was all they had. JSR

    1. [MAWORCES] Re: wire mills
    2. Molly asked: "Are there any on line sites for wire mills approx.1880 and up? This is around the areas of Winter Street,Salisbury, and Hill streets in Worcester." Hi Molly, I too would be interested in online info. In book form, you can find some info on mills/industry in Worcester in "Eight Hours for What We Will: Workers & Leisure in an Industrial City, 1870-1920" by Roy Rosenzweig, 1983. It's all about Worcester, and working-class life/culture/society. Barbara (a Quinsig Village native)

    1. [MAWORCES] A. J. Bates, Webster
    2. Gary Rea
    3. I was looking at the Library of Congress' American Memory map site, specifcially at a panoramic map of Webster in 1892, when I saw an inset illustration of the A. J. Bates Shoe Factory, as well as A. J. Bates' summer home and his cottage. I have done some search to determine just who A. J. Bates was, as I have a Bates line that is scattered throughout Worcester County, but I haven't been able to find anything on him, yet. Anyone know who A. J. was? Gary

    1. [MAWORCES] General Samuel ANDREWS (1809 - 1889)
    2. Dear Listers, Does the above named gentleman 'ring bells' with anyone? I guess that he must have gained rank during the Civil War, but I know very little more about him, other than that he was married twice: to Catherine MILLIKEN in 1836; and Sarah Ann PARKER in 1845, with issue by the latter. Apparently, he was born in West Boylston, Massachusetts, 19th April 1809, and died in Roxbury, Massachusetts, 10th January 1889. Yours, etc. Geoffrey Woollard in Cambridgeshire, England.

    1. [MAWORCES] MA Military Records
    2. Hi Listers, I recently read an article about locating ancestors information and one thing that was brought up was not to over look military records on the state level as well as national level. I have my ancestors pension file from the civil war from the national archives, but I had no idea that there might be additional records on the state level. Can someone point me in the right direction as far obtaining records on the state level? He was residing in Charlton at the time of enlistment but enlisted in Worcester. Thanks, Patti
