Hello All - I live in San Jose, CA, but I am practically the first person in my New England family to ever cross the Mississippi, so I have lots of New England lines to chase down. I am researching several lines in Worcester Co, VT and NH, particularly: Viall (Vial), Estabrook, Marsh and Farnum. Its fun to see where everyone hails from!! I am Joyce March from Kenosha, Wisconsin. My search is primarily Hugh(es), Harriman, Chaddock (all spellings), John and Abraham Smith, Kimball, Bruce, Newton, Potter, but there are many other allied families. My direct group moved into New Hampshire, Vermont and New York before moving to the Midwest and West. I had a few involved in the Salem Witch Trials (both sides). They have a good website. I live in Portland, Oregon and am researching SHATTUCK, SHADDUCK, SHADDOCK, FAIRBANKS, KEITHS, CASAVANT/CASSAVANT, MORSE, NYE, CROSBY and many others. From Casavant on there are many connections between Athol, Worcester County; Northfield, Franklin County; Vermont and New Hamphire. There also appear to have been connections to New York. I would love to share info with other researchers. If anyone has info on siblings of Bernadette Casavant, a Laywer in Ma., descendant of Daniel Casavant; I have some info for you. Pamela

To the several people who requested information about the Worcester City Hall: I found the paper that they have as handouts in the hallway near the office of the city clerk. I will transcribe it verbatim below. Please note the date of this document, as I cannot assure that the price or method of search is still accurate. However, when I am in Worcester again, which will be soon, I will stop in the City Hall and inquire about the accuracy of this information, and repost to this mailing list when I receive the updated information. Margie Casey CITY OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS CITY CLERK DEPARTMENT DAVID J. RUSHFORD, CITY CLERK February, 2001 The Worcester City Clerk Department enjoys assisting you in conducting genealogical research. We attempt to conduct a thorough search of our files during times of the day when customers are not waiting at our windows for issuance of certified copies of vital records. Therefore, we ask that you provide us with a written request itemizing any and all name/date information you already know about ancestors. We then collect an estimated fee determined by assessing the number of people and decades we need to search to satisfy your written request. The fee for this type of research is $4 per half-hour. Fees are payable to the City Clerk in cash of money order made payable to the City of Worcester. Responses to genealogical research requests vary from 2 days to 10 days. We respond to you in writing and provide the following: a. in births; the name of the child and date of the birth, b. in marriages; the names of the bride, the groom and the date of the marriage, and c. in deaths, the name of the decedent and the date of death. This method allows you to gain quick and inexpensive access to our files without having to spend large sums of money, and provides an opportunity to determine whether you want to purchase long form certificates. Dorcas White marrying Willard Albee Dec 6, 1801 in Dudley, MA. Therefore is WHITE a married name or maiden name, and her parents and ancestry? According to “Some Account of the Cone Family in America” compiled by William Whitney CONE 1903 pg 276-286 & 299, they had no children in 1893. He has been an editor and publisher of two newspapers. He writes that his life has been an uneventful one, which is perhaps not strange as these were Eastern newspapers. Lived at Ayer MA (these comments were the compiler WW Cone who was a newspaper editor also.) Marriage certificates I obtained states occupation as finisher on one and Mill Sp. on the other. Lillian has occupation as Heel op. Residence as Spencer. James was noted to be 35 years of age on this certificate. (Did he not tell Lillian true age?) They had one daughter that I know of Marjorie CONE, b. 6 Jul 1894, Brookfield, MA QUESTIONS: 1. Did they have any other children? 2. Is there a way of finding what newspapers he published? Were they in Ayer? Hope this isn't to much for one posting. Appreciate any guidance. Suzanne Herr California

When I went to Worcester City Hall recently, I noticed that they have a rack with brochures about genealogical research next to the city clerk's window. Even though I wasn't actively involved with genealogy then, I picked up a brochure just out of curiousity. One page was a list of genealogy web sites, such as www.ancestry.com and www.onlinegenealogy.com There was also a page that related specifically to Worcester City Hall and obtaining records from them. I don't have that page in front of me, but I will transcribe it shortly and post it to this list. By the way, do most people on this list live in the Worcester area? I live in Lititz, PA, but I am putting together a family tree for my friend who's family comes from Fitchburg. ********** August 1, 2002: ALERT I detected W32/Klez.h@MM Virus in my computer system tonight. Your computer may be infected. Please scan your system. If your system is infected with the W32/Klez.h@MM virus, please go to http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.klez.removal.too l.html to download the free tool for removing this virus. Copy and paste the entire URL if the ending of the URL is not included in the link above. The entire URL (ending in html) must be included to take you to the right page.
What is it about the geography of Fitchburg that you want to know? You don't really have a question in here, and since you don't give a surname either it doesn't look as though you are simply announcing yourself and your interests. Also, what is the virus alert below it about? I don't mean tell me more about the virus, we really try to keep that kind of thing off of the lists unless of course you think your e-mail may have sent the virus to other people on this list. I mean it isn't apparent why the message is there, and this worries me. I don't even know whether to think your computer compiled and sent the entire posting because it has a virus, and maybe the virus is attached to this strange hodgepodge message. Dora --- "T. A. Listers: I need help in finding a census listing for Timothy & Elizabeth O'LEARY (both originally from Ireland) along with their children who should be in the Millville, Blackstone or Uxbridge communities between the years 1860 and 1890. Timothy O'LEARY had died in 1899 so Elizabeth O'LEARY would be listed by herself in 1900. Two of the children's names that may show up in the early records would be Ellen and Timothy. Thanks for your assistance in advance. Don
