1. [MAWORCES] where people live
2. Hello fellow Worcesterites and other listers. I live right here in the big city of Worcester. I love it here. We even get four seasons, most of the time! LOL We can never rely on weather forecasts because of New England weather habits...here one minute and gone the next. I am researching my husbands MOORE family. I have George Moore born England, who lived in Worcester and died here. He married Roseanna FARNDON. They have a daughter Florence Frances Moore who married Louis (Lars) Peter JENSEN from Denmark. He came here c1910. Also the JACOBSON family of Lithuanian descent. The spelling before it was changed in 1904 was Jokabauskas. I have William Jacobson of Rochdale and his son Stephen. Stephen's son is Edward J. Jacobson Sr. My husband is Jr. As for my French side, I have CHASSE and RICARD mainly but have accumulated so much on these lines and that brings in many many names. I am searching for my Indian ancestry from my Canadien French line. Although I didn't pinpoint anyname as yet or tribe, I did find a definate Portagese ancestor from the mid 1600's. What a discovery that was! But am continueing my hunt for my Indian ancestor(s). This has proven to be very difficult seeing all I've been told is I have a touch of Indian heritage. But that's all a part of genealogy. On my Slovak side, I have BUGAN and SMEHIL, and ZAJAC. I have obtained little or no information in my many years of searching. Other names that may tie in are SLADEK, BULEJCIK and CHEVATA. I may even have a touch of Polish here somewhere according to my late father John J. Bugan. I welcome any help here. I can do some cemetary lookups. Here is the link to use or email me directly. GenLookups - Volunteer Lookup My best to all, Darlene Jacobson Worcester, Ma.

3. I've loved reading where people are from and who they are researching. I am from Fruitland, Idaho, on the border of Idaho and Oregon. I am researching BLACK, DAVIS, FLAGG, STEWART, WEBB, SMITH, SILLOWAY and HOLT. All of these are from Holden. Others who may have come to Worcester County from Essex County are: BRIDGES, SYMONDS, JOHNSON and I'm sure many others. My brickwall is finding who the wife of Daniel BLACK, b: 1778 in Holden. He, with other relatives, went to Berlin, Vermont. His first child was born in Berlin, Vermont in 1807. His children were Benjamin P., b: 1807; Sukey C, b: & d: 1809; Paul Brigham, b: 1810; Anna Smith, b: 1812; William Howard, b: 1815; and Jesse L S, b: 1823. Would love to hear from anyone interested in the above names. Bev Reinhardt bevr@fmtc.com Fruitland, Idaho

1. [MAWORCES] Far away from Worcester
2. While we are on the subject: like some of you I live too far away from Worcester to do my own research (I live in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands). I am interested in any information on the GAREAUX-family, who lived in Worcester in the period roughly between 1895 and 1920, although they seem to have lived in Rhode Island for a while as well. All I know at the moment is that the family consists of Jerome and Emmie, they had 4 or 5 daughters. The youngest, Sylvia, was born in Worcester on 30 April 1912. It looks like they had a son, Alva, who was born in Providence in 1907, and who died at 5 month old. I am looking for information on the marriage date of Jerome and Emmie, and names/birthdates of the other children. Is there an index where these dates can be found? That make an inquiry to the Town Hall a lot easier. Thanks a lot. Eliane Heseltine --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. TOM GLASSEL
3. We recently moved to Madison WI, home of the WI Historical Society Library, which has the largest collection of Canadiana in the US. We love researching Tom's ancestors from Quebec. Brother of one was Jed [or Ludger?] VIAU / VEO, who moved to Whitinsville MA about 1869. Here's the 1880 Census listing, p. 71A, Town of Northbridge, kindly sent to us by Dave Piper of this list [Thanks again Dave!]: Jed VEO, 44 b. Canada; Sarah, wf 46 b. Canada; Mary 21 b. Canada; Moses 19 b. Canada; Josephine 17 b. Canada; John 10 b. NY Others on the list sent us great info on Whitinsville and the area, helping us to get a picture of life there in the late 1800's. We are still hoping to get in touch with descendants of this branch of our family, originally of St. Remi, Napierville Co. Quebec. And one of these years we plan a first "live" visit to Worcester County. Tom & Barb Glassel

1. [MAWORCES] Re: Where People live
2. I live 35 miles SW of Sacramento, CA. In Worcester, County I'm researching GAVIN and CROWLEY. My GAVIN ancestor didn't reside in Worcester very long as he joined the military in the Civil War and never returned home. His name is on a monument in Sturbridge (the family resided in Fiskdale at the time of his enlistment). I'm also researching HEALEY, HENICK, HOOD & O'CONNOR in the Boston area (my home town).

1. Re: [MAWORCES] Where We Live
2. I grew up in Worcester and am closer to home now than I have been in decades (currently living in South Hadley, Mass., after many years in Maine and 2 in Colorado.) I'm immersed in Polish genealogy; my grandparents all settled in Worcester in 1910-1914, emigrating from tiny villages in what is now the Lida area of western Belarus. They all said they came "from Wilno," the "gubernia" or province whose seat was Wilno/now Vilnius, Lithuania. Main surname = Prokopowicz. Also one of my cousins is researching her Irish roots in Worcester, surname Londergan (which seems to have several spelling variations). Yes, it's very interesting to see who's on the list :) and what we're all looking for. Barbara

1. [MAWORCES] Researching SCHAEFFER late 1800s in Webster
2. Richard Anderson
3. Hello from southern Virginia, I've just joined this list in hopes of tracing the ancestry of Francis William SCHAEFFER, b. 3-Jan-1891 in Webster, Massachusetts. He married Mary Ernestine GROSSMAN 31 July 1915. Mary Ernestine GROSSMAN was b. 3 August 1893 in Lisbon Falls, Maine and d. Sept. 1986 in Reading, Massachusetts. I look forward to hearing from anyone on this list who may be able to help further my research. I'm not related to either of the above people -- Mary [GROSSMAN] SCHAEFFER was my mother's first mother-in-law and the paternal grandmother to my half-sister [12 years older than me]. My half-sister is the mother of two daughters [from a first marriage] and one son [from her current [2nd] marriage] and the information would help fill in their family tree. The information I quoted above is all I know about them [aside from the names of that couple's son and daughter. Best wishes, Richard B. 1. [MAWORCES] Jacobson changed to Hall
2. I am searching for more information on the Lithuanian family of Vincent and Teresa (Motejaitis) Jacobson. They had a son John Valerijan Jacobson born February 1889 in Lithuania. The family history states, that after coming to the USA, that he was a restless wanderer and took the name of John W. Hall and headed west. He was last heard from in 1916 to say he was leaving Rawlins, Wyoming. At that time, and as far as anyone knew, he had not married. The rest of John's family had settled in the Worcester County area. I am hoping to find someone who knows of this man and can give me an update on him and his wife and children if he married. Thanks for any help. Darlene

2. Leslie
3. I'm Leslie, and I live in Huntsville, Alabama. I am researching Amidon(various spellings of Ammidown, Amidoune), Farrar, Starbard, Snow, Brown and Aldrich. They lived in various parts of Worcester County including, Milford, Royalston, South Royalston, Templeton, Baldwinville, Athol, Southbridge, and the city of Worcester. My great-great grandparents(Eugene Lewis Amidon and Mary Etta Starbard Amidon) supposedly had a restaurant in Worcester on Front Street in the late 1800's to early 1900's, and then had a restaurant on the main street in Baldwinville. They also ran a boarding house for a Woolen Mill in South Royalston. If anything sounds familiar let me know. Thanks, Leslie J. Benson

1. [MAWORCES] Where We Live -- Who We're Researching in MA
2. Born in Leominster -- in Texas since'36, now in Katy, TX Looking for parentage, vitals, dates and locations of Waldo FORBES, supposedly b. Marlborough, NH or Oakham, MA(?) abt 1828. Father was probably Benjamon Forbes who moved from MA to Marl., NH abt 1829. His mother was probably Huldah PROUTY, his 2nd m. 31 Jan 1821. They were supposed to have had 4 ch: Huldah, Lucinda, John and Waldo. This info on Benjamin came from "History of Marlborough, NH" by Charles Bemis in response to a posting I made to MAWORCES Mailing List. Waldo m. bef 1852 to Abbie (or Ann) McNEILL (or MacNeil) b. Oakham, MA. They had 4 daughters: Maria b. abt 1852, Emma b. abt 1854, Ella b. abt 1857 and Hattie S. b. 13 Mar 1862 at Clinton, MA. Hattie m. Ludwig V. B. MOONEY 17 June 1886 in Boston and was lifelong resident of Leominster, MA. 1920 Clinton MA Census shows NH as b. place for both Waldo and Abbie, however Hattie's m. and dau. b. vital records both list Clinton as Hattie's b. place. Hattie was my grandmother--my mother and I were both b. in Leominster. Hope someone can suggest sources of more info. Suggestions are most welcome.
