This is a really stupid question, but...where does one look up obits? Does the local newspaper have archives that people can research? Is there a fee to do this? Does the local library keep archives? If I wanted to look up obituaries, where would I do that? Judy, I live in Southern Worcester County, not near Clinton, but if I get some free time soon, I'll take a run up there for you. Email the names to me, please, and any information you have. I'll do what I can. It's approximately a one hour ride for me (maybe...I'm not sure about that, even.) Also, my aunt, Mary Fitzpatrick, married a Paul SKERRY. They are both deceased now, but I wonder if he was related to your Skerry. Julie from Mid Michigan. I am researching My Thompson line. They were in Worcester (Mendon, Bellingham), Mass from aprox 1650-1756. Surnames from that time period: THOMPSON, THOMSON, BRIGGS, BALDWIN, WIGHT, DARLING, FAIRBANKS BRICKWALLS: 1. Looking for marriage of Gideon THOMPSON to ___FISH(K) around 1750. 2. Looking for birth document of Gideon Thompson born March 26,1730 to Samuel and Hannah (DARLING) THOMPSON. 3. That the Samuel Thomson buried in Bellingham is indeed our Samuel Thom(P)son Thanks, Julie Thompson Miller ----- Original Message ----- From: MerryMMorgan@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, August 14, 2002 10:50 AM To: MAWORCES-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [MAWORCES] where people live Hi, My name is Merry and I live in Worcester. I guess that would be me who got the roll call going, although I didn't realize it would generate so many responses. It certainly was great to see! I was only asking because I wanted to offer to do cemetery lookups, etc... for people on the list, but wasn't sure if everyone was from here, as I am! So I threw that question out there. What I didn't do, is introduce my own details! I was born and raised in Worcester (August 23, 1960--dreaded birthday just ahead) My mother was Ann Elsie FITZPATRICK, daughter of Elsie GAGNON and Charles FITZPATRICK. I don't know where they were born, but they lived (and died) in Worcester throughout the years of my childhood. My mother's aunts and uncles on both sides all lived in Worcester County, so it's a safe bet that my grandparents were born here. I have less Worcester connections on my father's side. He was born in Littleton, New Hampshire, and as far as I know, none of his ancestors came from Worcester County. Mostly, I have traced them all to Maine and Canada. Dad's name was Philip Arthur STINCHFIELD, son of Arthur William STINCHFIELD and Mary Anna BRUNELLE. As I said, they aren't from the Worcester area, but still, one never knows who might know who when one sends such a query out onto a mailing list such as this. Strange and fascinating things have happened in the genealogical world! (Wouldn't it be interesting to gather all those stories and publish them into a book? I wonder how many people found out that married into their own family line!) Okay, I'm digressing here. One more note, I don't have any information, but I do remember my mother talking a lot about living in Oakham, Mass. during at least some--maybe all of her childhood years. So, if you have knowledge of a GAGNON/FITZPATRICK Oakham family, please let me know. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BellBotm13@aol.com> To: <MAWORCES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 14, 2002 12:06 AM Subject: [MAWORCES] ROLL CALL and SURNAMES > > I have never seen so much mail from the Worcestor List. I live in Buffalo NY, and it has not snowed all summer! LOL! What has me totally stumped is my French Canadian LOVELY/LAVALLEE family who married into almost as difficult BELANDs. I have the Belands back to Canada now, but the Loveleys are still a brick wall. I have spent many hours in libraries with books and microfilm, but can't find them. I am looking for relations or other researchers who may have stumbled onto them for help. Mary Lovely, eldest of 8 daughters of Michell Lavallee and Adeline Chapdeline. Mitchell and Adeline were possibly married in 1856? Mary married Albert Beland and that part I have. I am done with my POND and GORDON lines, lucky me, they were handed to me in books. My Mom's family is from Mississippi and were clergy, so I have them all in copious detail, I only had to separate myth from reality. Sandra
Hi, I was born in Brooklyn and live now on Long Island NY. I am researching CONNELL, CULLITY, and I "think" now LYNCH. John and Hannah (Cullity) Connell are my g.grand-parents.They were Irish immigrants, but their arrival date is still a mystery. On the 1880 census John is 24,and he has died by the 1900 census,so I cannot find the year...or Hannah! Grand-mother Mary Connell was b.Worcester 1880.Her sister Julia however was b. Holyoke in 1879.Another sister Hannah was b.Worcester 1885 and died 1890.She is buried in St.Johns cemetery. By the 1900 census,Mary is living in NYC with the RYANs...she is listed as neice.Julia,is still in MA,now living with a Julia (John) Lynch family and is also listed as a neice. I am not sure, but John "may" have arrived 1863 on the Constantine.I have not been able to get a listing of all Connells on the Irish to America cds for that ship as yet. ANY help with these families will be greatly welcomed... If your Parkman ancestry goes back to the Rev. Ebenezer Parkman, I believe from Westborough, in the 1700s, he left behind a wonderful diary that the Massachusetts Society of Genealogists serialized in our periodical. Several available back issues are listed on our website, but the list is not inclusive. Go to www.rootsweb.com/~masgi/msog. Click on Publications/Products for that and other articles of interest to Worcester County.
