    1. RE: [MAWORCES] 1770's migration from MA to VT
    2. Susan Hedeen
    3. Hi, Betty, many if not most of these families migrated because of their loyalties to England. They didn't necessarily want to be in the frey of the revolution, but had sentiments of loyalty to the "mother" country. While not all of these families were of British origen, those who weren't didn't have revolutionary sentiments. Many didn't know they were in ME, NY or VT--they thought they were in Canada; and in fact they were so close to the border--some of it established while the rest was yet to be established*for example the demarcation line between upper NY & VT wasn't fully established until the 1790's, and the border lines between America & Canada were fluent and fuzzy at best--that for the most part, they were left alone to get on with their lives. The war of 1812 was another matter, and many of these families were drawn into that frey. 1. [MAWORCES] Dauphinais
    2. T. A. Lane
    3. Thank you Marcia for the information you sent me. What I have on Reme Dauphinais is that he was married to Alice Croteau. He had children Henri, Theresa, who married a George Butler, and Cecile Marie who married first Andrew Russo Sr., and then ? Jantz. I am guessing that this Reme was born in Fitchburg around 1900-1910 and died in Fitchburg, but that his parents came from Quebec. I am pretty certain that his parents are Joseph Dauphinais, b 1879 Quebec and Clarinda Benard, but I am not 100% sure as there are so many Reme's (and Remi/Remee variations). Joseph and Clarinda did have a Reme who is the right age to be my Reme. I am still stuck on the parents of Theodore Russo of Fitchburg. He married Palma Imprescia. He was born abt. 1900-1920 in Italy or MASS, father of Andrew Anthony Russo Sr., Phillip, and Jeffery Russo, born Fitchburg early 40s. Palma was born in Fitchburg in 1913. Her parents were Filippo Imprescia and Maria Filippa Sicilianio. Filippo was born in 1880 in Italy and died in 1966 in Hollywood, FL. Maria was born in 1889 in Italy and died in 1989 in Fitchburg, MA. All of this line is from: Pietraperzia Provienzia Enna Sicily, Italy Filippo is the son of Dominic Imprescia and Anna Viola. Maira Filippa Sicilianio is the daughter of Salvatore Sicilianio of Pietraperzia Provienzia Enna Sicily, Italy, born 1859, died 1932 in Pietraperzia Provienzia Enna Sicily, Italy. Her mother was Palma Maglio, born 1863 in Pietraperzia Provienzia Enna Sicily, Italy and died 1922 in Pietraperzia Provienzia Enna Sicily, Italy. This means Maria was the immigrant. Salvatore Siciliano was the son of Allessandro Sicilianio and Filippa Di Dio/DiDio. Palma Maglio was the daughter of Giovanni Maglio and Concetta Micciche. This line includes the following related surnames: The Carbone's through Anna Imprescia who married Luigi Carbone, son of Joseph Carbone and Maria Yovin. Weren't the Carbone's tied to the Italian Mafia? The Meglio's, Piccicuto's, Mondillo's, Romano's, Piccolomini's, Mazzone's, Porcu's, Caravella's, Rocca's, and more. Thanks so much. Any help greatly appreciated.

    3. Betty, The following link might help you. It provides information about Colonial Government Grants, etc. that influenced the settlement of Windham County, VT. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vermont/WindhamCoTownshend05.html My 5th great grandfather, John HAZELTINE, came to VT from Worcestor County, MA. Your mention of the FISHER family intrigued me. John HAZELTINE's grandson, David Hazeltine, in 1812 married as his second wife a Nancy FISHER of Townsend, VT. I have been trying to find more information about her, but so far have come up empty. Any leads? --Kathleen Canney Barber ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betty Clingman" <bj213@bellsouth.net> To: <MAWORCES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 23, 2002 6:43 PM Subject: [MAWORCES] 1770's migration from MA to VT > Hi friends, > My ancestors, along with many other people, moved from Massachusetts to > Vermont in the years just preceding the Revolutionary War. 3. Hi friends, My ancestors, along with many other people, moved from Massachusetts to Vermont in the years just preceding the Revolutionary War. In the case of my Fisher ancestors, it was from Worcester Co., MA to Windham Co., VT and the year was about 1774. I am hoping someone on the list with a little better background in New England history can answer a question for me. Besides the usual movement from more populated areas to less populated areas to obtain more and better land, were there other factors behind the migration at this particular time? Was it influenced by "pro" or "anti" war factions or any other hot political issues? I tried to find this information in our local library, but I'm embarrassed to say, our library is painfully lacking in books on New England history. Now if any of you ever need to know anything about Henry Miller Shreve and the great logjam on the Red River, just let me know. :^) Thanks for any help. Betty Shreveport, LA

Message-ID: <20020821.114953.-1037109.3.Jcs12367@juno.com> Greetings: Worcester Telegram & Gazette reporter Karen Nugent (Clinton office) is supposed to have a special article in the Aug. 25th Sunday Telegram concerning House Bill #5158. I brought Ms. Nugent's attention to this issue several weeks ago (having learned about the potential catastrophe from Sharon Sergeant's email here). I contacted my state rep, Pat Walrath, and informered her of my concerns with this bill and its potential for negetive impact upon family and local researchers. As of last week, the bill was in the Rules Committee (where it has been since about July 11). Here it may die a slow and quiet death OR it may be ressurected for vote again after the State Legislature leaves informal session for regular session in Jan. 2003. Keep you eyes peeled and remind your representative that you are concerned about this or other related legislative changes that will restrict access to state vital records. Regards, John C. Schumacher-Hardy Lancaster, MA In the wise words of Carla Howell (Libertarian candidate for MA governer): "Small Government is Beautiful." ==== MAWORCES Mailing List ==== ####--- Need to UNsub for vacation or summer?? ---###### Forget How to UN sub??? http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/usa/MA/worcester.html ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! A Justice of the Peace can perform marriages, settle very small disputes ( when the $takes are small), witness the signing of legal documents, and I think he can read the Riot Act. He really was responsable for keeping peace and he could be punished for refusing to attempt to break-up an unruly crowd. 3. Hi to all, I am researching several French-Canadian families who started out in Fitchburg and moved to other areas of the state. They include surnames: Lucius, Dumas, Gendron, and Lamoureux. Currently seeking marriage data for Michael Dumas to Clara (Jacques) Wright in the mid-1880's --probably around the Fitchburg area. They had children: Arthur H. and Joseph A. born in 1888 and 1893 respectively. Would like to contact these boys descendants. Also searching for a divorce between Jeremiah Lucius and wife Mary in the early 1870's while they were residents of Worcester Co. Is there anyone on the list that could help me with either of these "brick walls" ? Thanks Jackie in Dallas, TX
