Hi Listers, Thank You so very much for sending GEVRY info. to me. This is the break I needed because I am trying to locate where John Gevry and Amanda Robitaille disappeared to. At least now I know they did existed. They are my greatgrandparents and I am searching for as much information as I can get on them. I would like to know about Ida GEVRY and Walter Leon GRNEREUX who married 11 Jan 1928 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Nasonville, RI. I do not have the 1930 census or access to it. Ida Blanche GEVRY's parents are: John GEVRY B. Abt. 1869 in Canada and Amanda ROBITAILLE, no information on her. I know John migrated from Canada with his father Simon and his brothers and 1 sister Abt. 1896. They all went to Webster and spread out from there. Is it possible that someone can check a census record or something to see if they went to RI? Maybe the 1920 Census or 1910 Census? If so those records would mention if there were any other children at home. Thank You very much. Joan (NotelyJoan@aol.com)

Women in History! Women were {and still are to some extent} considered second class citizens and not entitled to hold office, have money, own property, etc. In the early times, any probably bestowed on a woman by her father or other person, was summarily taken over by the husband/brother, etc. In the case of the husband dying and minor children were involved, the mother did have to petition the court for guardianship of her children. Some of the time she was unsuccessful, be it if she had enough money to care for them, etc. Also, this can work in another way. If the remaining parent was remarrying, often times, the new spouse didn't want the children from the previous marriage. Hi Brent: In the non-printed vital records of Douglas, MA, I can give you this for DORR: Dorm - see Dorr: George, son of Henry and Nancy b. 22 Aug 1819 For those of you who are not aware - a portion of the vital records of Douglas did not get into print.
