    1. [MAWORCES] Marriage Orange Hart and Esther Howe 28 Dec 1869
    2. Anne E. Wellman
    3. Dear List, Does anybody do newspaper lookups? We have the above MN relatives who were married in Worcester MA on the above date. The Howe family originally emigrated from Paxton, Worcester Co. then to VT then to MN so these two went BACK to be married there in Worcester for some reason. I'd like to see the newspaper write-up from the county if there was one to find some other missing relatives if possible. Thank you for any help.

    3. Hello list: While searching for information on my 4xgr grandfather, I did a search of Worcester cemeteries and I came up with the following internment record. The only thing I know about my 4x grgrandfather is that his name is Samuel HARRINGTON and his son Johnathan HARRINGTON was born 25 July 1804 in Barre, Ma. I am wondering if any of you on the list can tie the following Samuel Harrington to a Johnathan Harrington. Interment Record for Samuel Harrington Name: Samuel Harrington Born: 1754 Died or Buried: 27 Mar 1838 Buried: Hope Cemetery County/State: Worcester, MA Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. 1. Re: [MAWORCES] McNamara
    2. Hal, There were McNamara in the area < 1850. Alexander McNamara married Anne Clarke on Jan. 7, 1848. On that same day F. Donahoe married Ellen Dooley. Either Fr. Gibson or (more likely) the co-pastor at St John's (Worcester), Fr Boyce officiated. On April 8, 1849 James McNamara married Bridget Doe (same Church). This was just after Lent so there was a number of marriages on that date: John Cummins to Catherine Flemming; James O'Brien to Anne Smith; Jerry Wilalhm to Sophia Fey or Fay. I have looked for McNamara children being born to James in Worcester in the years that followed their union & found none. I don't think this couple resided in Worcester, perhaps Westboro? Female McNamara's married by the Catholic Church (Fr. Gibson @ St. John's) <1850 in the area are. 4/21/1845 Michael Canarey to Margret McNamara (no others that day) and on 6/8/1849 Edmund Barnet to Mary McNamara (no others that day). Let us know if this helps, John

    3. Just when ya break through one brick wall--SPLAT!! you hit another!! I had found my gr gr gr grandfather's death certificate in Vt. The death certificate said that Johnathan HARRINGTON was born on 25 July 1804 in Barre, Ma. It also said that his parents were Samuel and where it says mother's maiden name it just says "S." I promptly wrote the town clerk of Barre,Ma. After a 3 wk. research she said that no records were found for any HARRINGTON for that time period and she searched 1800-1850. I know there is also a Barre Vt. but Resource and Research Dept. of Vt. states that Johnathan HARRINGTON was not born in Barre Vt. or anywhere in Vt. Barre, Ma. is in Worcester County and when I ran a search for Samuel HARRINGTON in Worcester there were several Samuel Harringtons in various Worcester towns in the 1800 Worcester census. I am thinking maybe his mother was visiting someone in Barre when Johnathan was born, or maybe he was born somewhere(a hospital or midwife's home) in Barre but never actually lived there. The town clerk nontheless checked all vital records and found no b.c. for Johnathan. Does anybody know of churches in that area that may have a list of baptismals? I realize much of Ma. was country and farms and that if somebody had a baby they may just not have gone to town to register the birth. Is there maybe a list of baptisms for Wocester County from 1800-1805 or 1810 or would they again be just church records? I have no idea what denomination the HARRINGTONS were. Is there maybe a master list of births for Worcester county from 1800-1805 or 1810? Is there perhaps a master lists of marriages for Worcester county for late 1700's to early 1800's? If there was a list of marriages I may be able to narrow it down by seeing if Samuel married somebody with a maiden name that began with an S. Does anybody know of any of the lists I asked about? Does anybody have any other suggestions of how I may find Johnathan HARRINGTON and his father Samuel? Thank you in advance for any information you may be able to provide me. Renne Blocker

He was married to Lucy FLETCHER on 9 Sep 1755 in Rutland, Worcester, Massachusetts. Capt. John STONE and Lucy FLETCHER had the following children: +2 i. Dr. John STONE (born on 11 May 1763). +3 ii. Alphesus Fletcher STONE (born on 7 May 1788). SECOND GENERATION 2. Dr. John STONE (John-1) was born on 11 May 1763 in Rutland, Worcester, Massachusetts. He died on 12 Sep 1838 in Springfield, Hampden, Massachusetts. History of Deerfield, Volume II, by George Sheldon, Published by E. A. Hall & Co., Greenfield, MA, 1896. p. 71 of Greenfield, Mass. History of Greenfield - Shire Town of Franklin County, Mass., by Francis M. Thompson, Volume 2, Greenfield, Mass. 1904. p. 764-65. Dr. John Stone son of Capt. John Stone of Rutland, Mass., was born in that town in 1763. He studied medicine with Dr. John Frink of Rutland, and commenced practice here in 1787. He had a large practice here and in the neighboring towns. I have before me his account book containing charges from January 1, 1790 to October 1, 1791. - one year and nine months - covering one hundred and seventy-one closely written pages, averaging twenty-five entries to a page. His charges for a visit in the village or within a mile of his residence was one shilling. A visit to the north part of the town was two shilling, to Leyden five shillings, and to Colrain six shillings. For extracting a tooth or "blooding" he charged eight pence, and for dressing a wound, one shilling six pence, including the visit. He allowed six pence per dozen for eggs, two pence per pound of mutton, six pence per pound for butter, the same for lard, four shilling a bushel for wheat, nine pence a pound for sugar, six sugar, six shillings a cord for wood, and one shilling five pence per quart of rum. He credits one person for fifty shad at three pence each and nineteen pounds of salmon at four pence per pound. He continued his practice here until 1819, when he removed to Providence, R.I. where he remained but a short time, making his final settlement in Springfield, Mass., where he died September 12, 1838. He established a high reputation as a skilful physician, and was greatly loved and respected as a man. He was married to Sally BARNARD (daughter of Samuel BARNARD and Abigail UPHAM) on 23 Dec 1792. Sally BARNARD was born on 10 Sep 1774 in Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. 3. Alphesus Fletcher STONE (John-1) was born on 7 May 1788 in Rutland, Worcester, Massachusetts. He Int. Marriage on 15 May 1807 in Greenfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. He Int. Marriage on 5 Jan 1822 in Greenfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. He died on 5 Sep 1851 in Greenfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. History of Greenfield - Shire Town of Franklin County, Mass., by Francis M. Thompson, Volume 2, Greenfield, Mass. 1904. p. 765. Dr. Alphesus Fletcher Stone was born in Rutland, Worcester County, Mass., May 7, 1778. In his younger days he taught school in Connecticut, and probably had a good common education for those days. About 1798 or 1799 he came to Greenfield, where he entered the office of his elder brother, Dr. John Stone. He continued his medical studies for about two years, and commenced practice at Greenfield, on Christmas Day, 1801. Here he continued in active business for fifty years, and became one of the most noted and successful practitioners in this region. He was famous as an obstetrician, and probably had a larger practice in that line than almost any other physician in the Connecticut Valley. He had a great reputation in the treatment of women and children, and was man of most urbane and gentlemanly deportment, and was very popular among all classes. He was exceedingly systematic, and always punctual to appointments. During the last twenty-five years of his life his consulting practice was very extensive. He became a fellow of the Massachusetts Medical Association in 1814, and was one of its counselors for twenty-five years. He took an active part in the formation of the Franklin District Medical Society, founded in 1851, was one of this counselors, and served for some time as librarian. In 1813 he was elected an honorary member of the American Esulapain Society of New York. In 1825 he received the honorary degree of doctor of medicine, from Williams College; in 1849 was appointed by the Massachusetts Medical Association a delegate to the American Medical Association; and in January, 1851, was elected first president of the Franklin District Medical Society. He was married to Rachel WILLARD (daughter of Beriah WILLARD and Catharine WELLS) on 6 Jul 1807. Rachel WILLARD was born on 16 Dec 1785 in Greenfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. She died on 30 Oct 1808. He was married to Harriet RUSSELL (daughter of Absalom RUSSELL and Sarah FRINK) on 3 Sep 1809 in Greenfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. Harriet RUSSELL died on 26 May 1817 in Greenfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. History of Greenfield - Shire Town of Franklin County, Mass., by Francis M. At the opening of the great Rebellion, in 1861, he took an active and prominent part, and received the commission of Brigadier-general of volunteers. He commanded at the disastrous battle of Ball's Buff, which reverse to the Union arms was more the result of errors on the part of the war department than of any fault of the commander. He soon after retired from the service, and subsequently visited Europe and Egypt, where he entered the army of the khedive and, by his thorough military knowledge and soldierly qualities, won the high distinction of virtual commander-in-chief of the Egyptian army. He was married to Fanny L. CUSHING in 1822. Fanny L. CUSHING died on 7 Nov 1851. Alphesus Fletcher STONE and Fanny L. CUSHING had the following children: 5 i. 3. I checked the Worcester County vital records CD. There is no Oren or Abel Parker mentioned in births, marriages, or deaths. So I checked the Massachusetts Vital Records to 1850 site on newenglandancestors.com. (Not all towns are recorded on the site yet.) I found the following possible family members. Year: 1848 Family name: Vose Record: Alvin H., 20, shoe maker, of N. Bridgwater [int. N. Bridgewater], s. William and Lusana H., and Mary H. Parker, 20, d. Oren and Sally, Feb. 23, 1848. Record type: marriage Place: Holliston Year: 1815 Family name: Graves Record: Orrin, [twin] ch. Dorus and Thankful Parker, Apr. 11, 1815. [Orren, C.R.1.] Record type: Birth Place: Ashfield So I checked the towns of Holliston (in Middlesex County) and Ashfield (in Franklin County). I didn't find anything in Holliston. I found the marriage record of Dorus Graves and Thankful Parker. He was of Williamsburg. She was listed as being "of Ashfield." The marriage took place October 5, 1797. I hope this gives you some ideas of where to search.
