I am looking for the cemetery called Pioneer Cemetery in Bolton. My g.g.g. father, Burgess Taylor, was buried there in 1882. Thank you, Judi
Old Home Week Souvenir of Uxbridge, MA Sep 1908 Moses Taft, b. 26 Jan 1812 Uxbridge, son of Luke & Nancy (Wood) Taft, was for many years connected with the industrial and banking life of his native town. Educated in the Uxbridge public schools, Uxbridge Academy, and the Friend's School in Bolton, MA., he began his business career ij the manufacture of woolens, in which he was interested for many years. Served as Selectman of the town in 1848, 1850, 1853 and 1858, and was twice Chairman of the Board. Was elected representative to the General Court in 1845. Was chosen President of the Blackstone national Bank of uxbridge in 1865, and President of the Uxbridge savings Bank from the time of its organization in 1870, both of which positions he held until the time of his dueath 02 Apr 1893. He was affliliated with Uxbridge Lodge, I.O.O.F. He married Sylvia Ann Wheelock dau of Jerry and Sukey (Day) Wheelock
Alison, There are similar 1866 maps for the towns in Tompkins Co, NY, which have been scanned by Bill Hecht, and are available on line at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures161/1866tompkins.html Two of us are transcribing all the name and businesses and putting them on line too. The way I do it is to open up a scanned map in Adobe Photoshop Elements, and then I open an Excel spreadsheet, and put them side by side on my computer screen, and "type" the names from the map into the spreadsheet, by map section number. I can enlarge part of the map to make it easier to use. If I can not read a name, I try to find it in a book I have, "Landmarks of Tompkins County", by Selkirk, 1894. If not, then I use the search engine on the Tompkins County GenWeb site, and I can usually find them there. This work will be placed there soon. Does anyone know if the old Carruth house still stands? The original property was 30 acres purchased from Jonathan Flagg. It was in the northern part of the town of Westborough, in the section which was then known as the North precinct. Later it was set off as part of the town of Northborough. It lay on the west side of the road to Berlin about one mile north of the present business center of Northborough in 1951 it was in the possession of a Mr. R. T. Mason. Dale

Dale - Marlborough & Marlboro are the same place. Not Worcester county, but Middlesex. Massachusetts has a bunch of towns that are officially -borough, but are commonly spelled -boro. Marlboro is one, then there are the Attleborough/Attleboros, plain, north & south, and Foxborough/Foxboro. Candice - I can tell you what it is, but not where it was. The Town Farm would have been the poor farm - also called almshouse, poorhouse. I'm surprised the town historian wouldn't have known about it. There should be some mention of it in the town records of that date. Most towns had an overseer of the poor. Blackstone is a pretty small place, so maybe a there is a section of the Town Cemetery that was used to bury the residents of the poorfarm. Otherwise, maybe there was a cemetery on the grounds of the poorfarm. The town clerk issues the burial permits, so you could ask if they have them that far back, or ask if there is a Town Cemetery. There is a Farm Street in Blackstone, so maybe the poor farm was in that area. Hope someone else on the list will know the answer. Marlboro is an abbreviated spelling variation of Marlborough, which is useful for signage or wherever space is at a premium. Linguistic purists might still prefer Marlborough as it carries more of the original Olde-English flavor. The following webaddress is the home of a map outlining in pdf format the 14 counties and their enclosed cities and towns throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. After you bring up this site, you may wish to bookmark it for future reference. You can determine from this map that Marlborough is located in _________________ County. For those more interested in Wheelockville, and the Wheelock family: You can see a genealogy of the Wheelock family at the URL listed below. Benjamin Wheelock (1678 - 1746) was one of the founders of Mendon. His name appears on the founders monument in the center of town. His grandson, Lieutenant Simeon Wheelock (1741 - 1787), lived in Uxbridge when it split from Mendon, and is the ancestor of most of the Wheelocks in Uxbridge. His house still stands in the center of town, and is in the national register of historic buildings. Simeon's great-grandson, Arthur Wheelock (1851 - 1927), was the founder of the Stanley Woolen Mill, which employed many people in and around Wheelockville. The mill still stands on the Blackstone River, though in disrepair. Arthur's grandson, Walter Tobey Wheelock (1923-1979) wrote a genealogy of the Wheelock family of Uxbridge: "The Wheelock Family in America, 1637-1969", privately published. You can trace this line starting here: http://www.wheelockgenealogy.com/ged/ralphdsc/d0004/g0000031.html#I48 Regards, Rick Sullivan Northborough, MA http://www.wheelockgenealogy.com/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheryl Romasco" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, March 22, 2006 6:13 PM Subject: Re: [MAWORCES] Wheelockville??? > Wheelockville is a part of Uxbridge, MA. Wheelockville is a part of Uxbridge, MA. It is on the east side of Uxbridge. I'm not sure of the exact boundary areas. The Wheelock Family owned a mill called the Stanley Woolen Mill. There was a school called the Wheelockville School which has since been torn down, however, the area where the school was is now called the Wheelockville Playground. Hi All: Here is the blurb on Arthur Wheelock from the Old Home Week Souvenir of Uxbridge, MA Sep 1908 Arthur Wheelock, President and Treasurer of the Stanley Woolen Co., was born in Uxbridge 26 Mar 1851, son of Silas M. and Irene (Taft) Wheelock. His early training was received in the Uxbridge public schools and at Wilbraham Academy. He became agent of the Calumet Woolen Co. at the date of its incorporation , and became its Treasurer in 1900. In 1905 he purchased the Calumet Mill, and has since operated it under the name of the Stanley Woolen Co. The Odd Fellows and the Home Market Club, of which he was a director, constitute his affiliations with social and fraternal organizations. In 1882 he was elected Selectman of the town, which positions he filled three years. He was a trustee of the Thayer Fund, having been elected to that position in 1907, and was also a life trustee of the Public Library, which position he held since 1894. Hi Maureen: There is Chestnut Hill in Millville, and there is a lookout tower on the top. It is on the Chestnut Street-Millville Road, and the entrance to the lookout tower is between Legg Street coming from Mendon and Vineyard Street which goes to Southwick's Zoo. Alison
