    3. Hi! Alison Well.... My brick wall consist of the name George Brigham... born in Worcester Co. He married Sarah Brooks also born Worcester Co. and they had a son by the name of Clarence Brigham (my Grandfather) that was also born Worcester Co. July 6,1887 and died May 10,1963. and was living in RI at the time of death and was burried just across the line into East Putam Ct. He and my grandmother Winifred Cooper Brigham had parted but never divorced. I never knew my Grandfather or anything about him and so no I have his death cirt.and I see that George Brigham was his Father and Sarh Brooks was his mother (My great grandparents) But it doesn't tell me much on them as to when they were born or died. Having that might be helpful in my search. It took an act of congress just to find out about the death cirt.as all the family members are passed on now. I am living in Tx so its not as though I can run to Worcester city hall to check out their files! :-( So all in all I am looking for the birth and death and where they were or burried or anything I can find out about them. 3. When I firsted started this "genealogy bug" Ancestry.com was really reasonable in price. And they have alot of information. I would say in the last two years they have tripled in Price. They have old newspapers and biographies. I think they are the better BUT they are costly now. When I started it was about $39.95 for 6 months of research. I do not know what they cost right now but I do know it has gone way up. There are other sites as well. There is Trees.com. The Mormons have a free site and it is: www.familysearch.com Genealogy.com is good also BUt I think ancestry.com has more tools to work with. 3. Hello! I live in Dallas but I would like to plan a trip to Massachusetts so that I can expand my family research, along with some sightseeing, in the next couple of months. In order to use my time wisely, over 5-7 days, I would be interested in recommendations on where I should target my research time in both Boston and Worcester. A couple of particular areas of interest to me are accessing any available Worcester County Naturalization documents prior to 1880 and vital records after 1900. Here in Dallas, the library has the entire Massachusetts vital records index through 1910, but no records after 1900 and we only have the Naturalization index, which is useless because I'm looking for someone with a common name and there are many possibilities. Also, any advice on hotel's/B&B's in Worcester? Thanks, Kelly Day

    3. Hi Joyce: Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com I think are owned by what is called My Family.com. Depending on what you require, would determine which would be your best route to go. There are many things that are on-line for free. Ancestry has some of the stuff that is free to all. Maureen is correct, Ancestry is not cheap anymore. Getting more expensive all the time. One thing I do not like is them charging for stuff that is elsewhere for free and has been there for free. 1880, 1901, 1911 Canadian Census records for instance. Make up a listing of what you need in the "Group and Class" mode, and post a bit to the list. I'm willing to try to help. If what you are looking for is in another county other than Worcester Co., MA - you might meet with some opposition from others on *this* list. I don't have a problem with who/where - because some may have been born in Worcester Co., but not necessarily died there, or the parents were not from Worcester Co., from the gitgo. Besides we who are on this list are here to help one another and doing a good deed each and every day is the right thing to do. Regards, Alison Franks Archivist, Rawson Family Association

Also, the small cemetery by the park in Cherry Valley.... does anyone know the correct name for the cemetery? 1. Worcester County's Polish Community
    2. Barbara Proko
    3. Greetings, I am currently working on my third photo history of New England Polonia. "Worcester County's Polish Community" will be "a community family album," to use the phrase that I coined three years ago for my first book, "The Polish Community of Worcester." This will be a ground-breaking book: the first publication to document the experiences of nine different Polonias in central Massachusetts and show their interrelationships. It's an exciting project to preserve our Polish heritage, and I invite anyone interested to contact me off-list for more information. Some basic details follow. Barbara Proko (a Worcester, MA native currently residing in New Britain, CT) ******************** Worcester County's Polish Community A new photo history celebrating Worcester County's Polish heritage is in the works, and anyone willing to share family, parish, business, school, team or organization photos for the project is invited to participate. Barbara Proko, Janice Baniukiewicz Stickles, and the Czestochowa Guild of Catholic Women are developing "Worcester County's Polish Community" for fall 2007 release in Arcadia Publishing's "Images of America" series. Proko and Stickles see the new book as a natural complement to their 2003 Arcadia volume, "The Polish Community of Worcester." While the first book focused on the city's "Polonia," this one will encompass the entire county, corresponding to the area served by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester. The new book will highlight the communities associated with the diocese's seven Polish parishes--located in Clinton, Dudley, Gardner, Southbridge, Webster, West Warren, and Worcester--as well as the Polonias of Gilbertville and South Grafton. It will also examine early Polish settlement in the towns surrounding Worcester and the later Polish American move to these suburbs. Poles began settling in Worcester County in the 1860s, with major waves of immigration occurring between 1890 and 1914, after World War II, and in the 1980s. The 2000 census identified more than 51,000 county residents as having Polish heritage. "Like our first book, this photo history will essentially be a community family album, representing as fully as possible the range of Polish experience here. There are countless stories to tell and memories to share, whether of parish jubilees and Polish picnics or sports stars and successful businesspeople," Proko said. The Arcadia format accommodates about 235 images. The authors are seeking photos, documents, advertisements, and other paper memorabilia from the 1860s through the 1980s. As with their 2003 project, they will return all materials and acknowledge all lenders in the new book. Proko and Stickles are organizing photo pick-up sessions at various locations around the county. Scheduled to date are: Saturday, April 8--Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Worcester, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday, April 9--Polish National Home, 7 Main St., South Grafton, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, April 23--Booklovers' Gourmet, 55 East Main St., Webster, noon-3 p.m. Saturday, April 29--Sturbridge Coffee Roasters Cafe, 210 Hamilton St., Southbridge, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, April 30--Tatnuck Bookseller, 18 Lyman St., Westborough, 11 a.m.-2p.m. Interested persons may also submit materials to members of the Czestochowa Guild of Catholic Women of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish in Worcester. For more information, contact Barbara Proko at (860) 223-0887 or [email protected]; or Janice Baniukiewicz Stickles at (508) 833-1620 or [email protected] ### __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. Hi Jackie: This is a very strange family! First of all I didn't find a marriage for Albert Phillips to Cora Wright. 09 Nov 1858 in Fitchburg, Peter Wright married Lizzie C. Field their children were: David b. 21 May 1864 Levi Joseph 24 May 1870 Mary Elizabeth 05 Feb 1874 Fitchburg Lizzie/Elizabeth F. Field d. 20 Apr 1876 age 32 of Cancer wife of Peter, and dau of John and Angeline (____) Field Peter then married Ella M. (Defoe) Phillips 13 Sep 1876, 2d marriage for both. Ella had Charles (couldn't find him in the on-line vitals) and Joseph Ellsworth . The 1880 Census shows a Cora, but I think this is Mary Elizabeth, knowing the French Canadian penchant for naming children one thing and calling them something else. Anyway in the 1900 Census 5W Fitchburg, Worcester, MA pg 8A Peter Wright Dec 1827 72 m23y CanF CanF CanF To US 1880 - we know that's wrong Mary E. Wright Apr 1847 53 m23y 7/7 VT CanF CanF Ellsworth Wright Oct 1879 20 single MA Can VT Albert J. Phillips Sep 1874 25 single MA MA MA son-in-law Albert can't be single and be a son-in-law. He can be single and a step son though. What I am thinking here is that Albert Phillips was the son of Ella M. (Defoe) Phillips. I tried doing a marriage look up for Cora and mary Elizabeth - that didn't work either. Regards, Alison Franks Archivist, Rawson Family Association

Although I have found out from the City Halls in other large MA cities, that they are now charging a fee for "genealogy research." For instance, the City of Cambridge is now charging a "research fee," even if you go there and look through the "record books" yourself ! Something like $15 per hour ! 3. Hi Jay: No matter where your ancestor was buried a burial permit would be required, and if the buried was to be other than in the town where the death occurred, then a transit permit would also be required. Generally these items are kept in the town halls. Pascoag is within Burrillville, and the town hall for Burrillville is in Harrisville, RI. Contact the town hall to ask about a burial and transit permit for your person. I hope you get good news there because not all town halls retained those documents sad to say.
