    3. Good Morning All: I went to the vital records on line at NEHGS and pulled off the death information on Enos T. Albee and Deborah his wife as follows: Enos T. Albee d. 17 Sep 1887 age 73y6m Mendon, buried Mendon 384:480 Deborah Albee d. 06 Dec 1873 age 55y4m23d Mendon, buried Mendon 258:335 I can only go with the information that I see. Enos was Enos Taft Albee. I didn't find where his parents Jesse and Rachel were buried. Alison

    3. I took a ride over to Millville Rd and took a look at what I think is the Taft-Lamothe cemetery. There is one main tall stone in the middle - Arnold Taft- d. April 16, 1871, aged 77 years on the front, then on the other 3 sides - Stephen Taft, died July 14, 1861, age 66 years, on the left side as you are looking at the Arnold Taft inscription. Children and Grandchildren of Arnold Taft - on the back side Martha Williard, wife of Arnold Taft, died Jan 16, 1888, aged 90 years on the right side as you are looking at the Arnold Taft inscription then some very small stones across the front left side as you look at the cem from the stree that say Taft on the face, and across the tops - Charles, Stephen, George, Mother- Wife of Adin Taft on the face, Father- Adin B. Taft on the face There could be other graves there, but there are no other stones. When you are looking at the cem from the front, there is also what must be an underground crypt at the right side of the cem. There is a metal door at the entry. In the rear right back corner is an urn and a small angel statue. there are no Lamothe stones. the cemetery is very neat - covered by grass which someone must mow. The cemetery is directly across the street from a Rhodes home. I don't know if this was Lorna's house or the house of one of her sons. Along the left side of the cemetery is the driveway of my son's friend's house. The driveway goes uphill, and their house is at the top - directly behind the cemetery. Lisa

    3. Hi Don - This is just great! I'm so glad you can claim the headstone. According to the article in the paper, the police have no idea how the headstone even got to their station. My guess is that someone took it from the cemetery and someone else found it in Milford, and turned it in - like a found wallet or something. Either that, or the people who took it got a guilty conscience and turned it in.... Were you able to read the article in the newspaper? You should probably contact the Milford Police or that reporter the business phone number for the Milford Police Department is 508-473-1113 There is another number labelled information/access line 508-634-2362 The reporter was Sara Withee who can be reached at 508-634-7546 or [email protected] The detective was named Dustin Testa What's really interesting is that Alison Rawson found a record stating that Enos was buried in the Taft-Lamothe cemetery in Mendon, but there was no mention of Deborah. I wonder how that information came to be recorded in the records she looked at. We've actually been discussing this more on the Mendon list, and I'm sure you won't mind if I forward your message over there. I'll leave off your email address, but let me know if it's OK to send it, and I will do it later. Alice Palladini is the president of the Mendon Historical Society. She has been checking on who owns the Taft-Lamothe cemetery where Enos was thought to be buried so she will be glad to know where he was really buried. She probably has some contacts in Uxbridge who can help you with the cemetery. My guess is that it was in the Albee family and someone was supposed to be responsible for it, but as time went on that information was probably lost and not passed on to the next generation until no one remembered it any more. As for what to do with the headstone - you should contact Alice if you want to put it in Mendon Alice Palladini - [email protected] She can probably help put you in touch with the proper people if you really want to install the stone in Mendon rather than back in Uxbridge. As for the Taft-Lamothe Cemetery - are you related to any of these people? I went over there today and took some pictures. there is one main tall stone in the middle - Arnold Taft-d. April 16, 1871, aged 77 years on the front, then on other 3 sides - Stephen Taft, died July 14, 1861, age 66 years, on the left side as you are looking at the Arnold Taft inscription. When you are looking at the cem from the front, there is also what must be an underground crypt at the right side of the cem. There is a metal door at the entry. In the rear right back corner is an urn and a small angel statue. Let us know how it all works out. I'm so happy you found my message. 2. Dear Donald, How wonderful to hear from you! There has been quite a discussion as to what to do with that stone on the Mendon List. Maybe you should sign up for that list and put your two-cents worth in there. I did forward your message to that group. And I'm copying this reply to them also so they will know you have been found! In response to your comments... I believe you, as the next of kin, should be involved in whatever happens to the stone -- and I believe there may be some cost in getting it reset in the cemetery. 3. Thank You! Thank You! Thank you for finding my great-great-grandfather's and mother's tombstone. My name is Donald Warren Barnes, Jr. and I was born in Uxbridge My father was Donald Warren, born in Uxbridge and died in Macon, Georgia His mother was Harriette Fletcher Albee (1879-1909) born in Mendon (Horse Corners). She was teaching school at Horse Corners when my Grandfather, Frank Warren Barnes married her. Frank operated a jewelry store in Uxbridge and was UxbridgeTown Treasurer for many years. Harriet's father was Charles Henry Albee (1845-1906) who married Eliza Ann Robinson (1847-1927) from Paris, Maine. Charles Albee was the son of Enos Taft Albee(1814-1887) who married Deborah Nichols (1818-1875) Enos Taft Albee and Deborah Nichols are buried in the Albee cemetery in Horse Corners. It is only their tombstone that has moved. Their Granddaughter Harriette had a younger daughter, Bertha Albee, who outlived her sister by many years. About 1946, Bertha Albee, my great-aunt, took me to Horse Corners and we went into the cemetery there. It was terrible condition but it had a broken down metal fence. She cried when she saw that the undergrowth and trees had almost hidden her grandparents stone (s). 3. Dear Fellow Listers, I do not know if this information would help find the owners of that head stone. I have several family members burried in different cemeteries in Milford, and quite a few in Upton. For years and years I have always been the one who brings the flowers or whatever has to be done. I could not find where one of my aunts was buried and I thought I would go to the Church where she belonged. The Church keeps the cemetery records. BUT I decided to go talk to the caretakers at the cemetery. That day 4 were working. So I identified myself to them. And then I asked did they know where my Aunt Bess was buried. They took out a book...looked it up and brought me over to her. There is that old cemetery on (I think)on Providence Road. But also quite a few old graves are at Vernon Grove cemetery In Milford. If that Albee Nichols family lived and died in Mendon...THey still could have been burried in Milford, Mendon OR Upton. The Churches and the cemetery have the RECORDS. Have a nice day! 3. An article in the Milford Daily News today - http://www.milforddailynews.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=90283 Police want to return headstone to where it belongs By Sara Withee / Daily News Staff Friday, April 21, 2006 - Updated: 01:13 AM EST The limestone block reads, "Enos T. Albee 1814-1887" and "his wife Deborah H. Nichols 1818 -1873." ... the 2-foot-tall headstone has been at Milford Police Headquarters for at least 16 years, he said, though no one seems to know how it arrived... I did some quick checking on ancestry and found Enos died 17 NOV 1887 in Mendon, Massachusetts so chances are the headstone is from a Mendon cemetery. According to a family tree posted at rootsweb.com Enos was the son of Jesse ALBEE Rachel BENSON who were married in Uxbridge. I'm sure this is not a very difficult problem to solve - they probably never thought to check with a genealogist - DUH I found Enos living with his son Charles and family in the 1880 census in Mendon - he was 66 and working in a boot factory. If anyone knows anything about where Enos' headstone belongs, you can check out the article - there is an email address for the author at the end. If you can't access the article, let me know and I'll send it to you. Lisa

    3. Hi - My g.g. grandfather, Alexander Ellery, is in a photo that I have from about 1947 taken in Rockland, Massachusetts. He is standing with Walter & Charlotte Delano, a guy named Chich and his wife Lillian, his son Ralph and Mildren Ellery, and Ben Delano and his wife Grace. The house in the photo is located at 504 Liberty Street, Rockland, Massachusetts. I'm trying to figure out the connection. My dad tells me we're related somehow to the Delano's. Ben Delano looks to have been born around 1870-1875, because he's pretty old in this 1947 photo. Any info or connections would be appreciated. Thanks! Karen --------------------------------- Yahoo!
