    1. Sutton, MA, to Mexico, ME (KIDDER), Cont'd.
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I forgot to mention that I found the web site for the Sutton Historical Society, but I didn't find the migration of families to Maine mentioned. But, I do see that they can post queries on their web site: http://www.suttonmass.org/histsoc/ I went to find a web site for the Oxford Historical Society, and have not yet found it. But I did find out there are several towns in several countries with the name, Oxford ! Here is some web sites I did find: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/4791/oxford.html http://www.town.oxford.ma.us/ http://www.oxfordma.com/ http://www.clarabartonbirthplace.org/ Betty (near Lowell, MA)

    1. Sutton, MA, to Mexico, ME, 1700's (KIDDER, WAITE)
    2. Betty
    3. Hello, I have been researching my KIDDER's for 11 years, and they went from New Ipswich, NH, to Calais, ME, during the late 1700's (via New Brunswick). I also have an interest in all the KIDDER families who moved to "Maine" during the 1700's ! * One set of families I know about moved from the Sutton and Oxford, MA, area in the late 1700's up to Oxford County, ME. In particular in the towns of Mexico, Dixfield, and Rumford (and Peru) ! Someone wrote to me recently asking about those KIDDER's and that got me thinking about them again ! I went to remind myself of which families were involved, and found out that a KIDDER and a WAITE family might have moved up there together. And, it is possible that a group of families from Worcester County might have moved to the Mexico, ME, area together ! I was wondering if there is a web site which discusses this, and possibly offers a list of the families who moved up there together ! Or, is this small migration mentioned in the history books of Sutton and Oxford, MA? An FYI is that the KIDDER's living in Oxford Co., ME, in the 1800's, seem to have spread out to other areas ! Some might have stayed in the area, but others went "west." I have access to KIDDER information, and I have the "History of Billerica," where the patriarch, James KIDDER, lived until his death in 1676. So, I know that several of James' descendants started to move out of the Billerica and Chelmsford area in the early 1700's. Some went to CT; some went to the Worcester area, and some went to NH, etc. Thank you for your time. Betty (near Lowell, MA) *Just a reminder that Maine did not become a State until l820.

    3. Hi Helen: Go to http://www.worcpublib.org/ . This is the Worcester Public Library and when you get there click on Ask a Librarian. If you know the name and date at least within the month, you can ask if they will look for you. There is no charge and what they find they will mail to you. As for Milford papers, I don't know. Those you may have to good to Milford to read, or get someone to read them for you. Milford is part of the Metro West conglomerate. You might try the Boston Public Library. Uxbridge also had a paper and they are at the library in Uxbridge. Mendon Library also has some newspapers on film, so you might ask there. 1. seeking Jewett information
    2. I am seeking information on JOHN HOWARD JEWETT, his wife SARAH PHELPS JEWETT and his daughter SHEILA MCKENZIE JEWETT. John Howard was the business manager and later publisher of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, c. 1874-1900. I can find no reference to him other than his presence in the federal census. He was also an author of poetry that was published in many newspapers and periodicals, as well as an author of children's books such as the Bunny Stories and Gyp at Home and Abroad. Any information about his time in Worcester would be greatly appreciated. I would also like any information about his daughter, Sheila, who was born in 1882 in Worcester. What school might she have attended? Thanks for any help Kathy Walunas

    1. William Bowen ca 1759 - 1840.Uxbridge, MA
    2. Looking for any information about my g-g-grandfather, William Bowen, who enlisted in the Revolutionary War at Uxbridge in 1780 and after the war returned to either Uxbridge or Mendon. William initially joined Captain Lunt's Company of the 13th Massachusetts and later was transferred to Captain Mills of Colonel Vose's regiment. Around 1810 or so, he moved to Ontario, NY. I have not been able to find out anything more about him while he lived in Worcester County. I mention his Revolutionary War service because there are other William Bowens in the same area, who unfortunately for my research, are not 'mine'. Any help or suggestions to locate him would be greatly appreciated in 'tracking him down'. Clare

    3. I am trying to locate a marriage record for an Elizabeth Winchester who married a Daniel Morse on April 24, 1777. I think she was born in Reading, MA but I don't know where the marriage took place. I think it might have been in Southboro but not sure as that is where she died in 1780. I also do not know the exact death date as it was the result of childbirth. Thanks, Dale

    1. HODGDON Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs which both belong to the HODGDON Family of Massachusetts. The first is a photograph of Mrs. HODGDON of Westboro, MA. The photograph was taken at the C. P. Critcherson Studio in Worcester, MA probably sometime in the 1880's with Mrs. HODGDON likely in her 60's at the time. The second photograph is identified as "Baby" HODGDON at age 4 months and 15 days of age. This second photograph was probably also taken in the 1880's. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that these precious old photographs can be returned to the care of the family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
