If there's a vintage photo of a Polish picnic in your family album, it could help tell the story of Worcester County Polonia in a groundbreaking new book. "Worcester County's Polish Community," scheduled for fall 2007 release by Arcadia Publishing, will be the first book ever to document the heritage and history shared by thousands of Polish Americans in Clinton, Dudley, Gardner, Gilbertville, South Grafton, Southbridge, Uxbridge, Webster, West Warren, Worcester, and other county locales. Coauthors Barbara Proko, Janice Baniukiewicz Stickles, and the Women's Guild of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, Worcester, are soliciting materials to borrow for the photo history, which they envision as a "community family album" for Central Massachusetts Polonia. Vintage photos, documents, postcards, ads, event programs, and jubilee booklets will all play a part in telling the story. The book will encompass all aspects of local Polish family, parish, business, school, athletic, military, political, social and cultural life from the 1860s forward. Upcoming collection sessions are scheduled as follows: * 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Friday, July 21--Uxbridge Free Public Library (Thayer Memorial Building), 15 North Main St., Uxbridge. * 1-4 p.m., Saturday, July 22--Barnes & Noble, The Shoppes at Blackstone Valley, 70 Worcester Providence Turnpike (Routes 146 & 122A), Millbury. * 8 a.m.-noon, Sunday, July 23--Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St., Worcester. * 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, July 29--Chester C. Corbin Public Library, 2 Lake St., Webster. * 3-5 p.m., Saturday, July 29--St. Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main St., Dudley. * 8 a.m.-noon, Sunday, July 30--St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb St., Webster. The final opportunity to submit materials will be Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the annual fall festival of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. All materials will be returned, and all donors will be acknowledged in the book. Seeking information about Annie Dickinson Smith, husband Roy Smith, and children Roy D. and ???. Annie Eliza Dickinson born 1890 in New Braintree according to her marriage record. Birth is indexed with North Brookfield records, but not viewable. Annie's parents were Sanford Leroy Dickinson and Annie Hapenny or Happenny. 1900 census has Annie living in New Braintree with parents. 1910 Annie is in Boston listed a sister-in-law of Ralph Young. Ralph's wife is named Maude and I do not have a Maude as child of Sanford Dickinson. Also in this household is Roy Smith. 1910 Worcester VR list marriage of Roy Smith (son of Henry Nelson Smith and Mabel (Irish)) to Annie Dickinson on June 1 in Putnam, CT. Roy's W WI Draft Registration card lists his address as 17 Congress St., Worcester, MA. His occupation is listed as waiter for [?Lewis T. Gerdron?]. He claims he should be exempt from service because he has a wife and two children, The family is not together in 1920. Roy is divorced in Worcester. A child Roy D. Smith age 4 ys 10 ms is in New Braintree living with Sanford Dickinson. Where are Annie and the other child? Roy is still in Worc. in 1930. In 1938 Roy resided in Wrentham. He later resided in North Attleboro and possibly operated or was employed by Yankee Diner.
Thanks to all who responded to my query regarding Charles Sumner Ross and Bertha Smith. I still do not have information about them after the 1930 census. I was able to find out that Lincoln Elmore Ross married Ruth Burkill and had 3 children probably all still living. According to Ruth's obituary Lincoln Ross died in 1949. Ruth later married Roy M. Smith, who I believe was the uncle of Lincoln Ross and brother of Bertha Smith.

Dear Liz, I received my GGGrandfather's Declaration of Intent and Naturalization papers from a Ms. Elizabeth Bouvier, Judicial Archivist, New Court House, Room 104, Boston, MA 02108. I too had a copy of an index card. My GGGrandfather was naturalized in Nov 1876 and filed his Declaration of Intent in Oct. 1874 with the Worcester Superior Court. I was informed by NARA Waltam, MA that the Massachusetts State Archives would have the original records and that I could get a copy of his file. I emailed the Massachusetts State Archives to inquire about the records and Ms. Jennifer Fauxsmith, Reference Archivist responded. She informed me that these records fall into Ms. Bouvier, Judicial Archivist's jurisdiction and she would be best able to answer any questions and assist me. I emailed Ms. Bouvier and she never emailed me back. Instead within 4 days of emailing her, I had the files in my mailbox!!!!! I was so happy. Unfortunately, I no longer have Ms. Bouvier's email address since my computer crashed. You could try snail mailing her your request at the above address. I tried surfing the net to see if I could find her email, but could not. Good luck with your quest. Karen: The death records most likely came from the NEHGS Database, New England Historical and Genealogical Society in Boston. This is a pay site. The index includes the image of the actual records on the books of the Town where the death was recorded. You would contact the Town with the name and dates etc. to get the records. Alternative I'll try to transcribe the data, depending on the quality of the image. Hibra Azubath Winchendon 1869 vol. 222 pg. 322 Death Hibra Sally Boston 1866 vol. 194 pg. 77 Death Azubath age 80 and 4 months date May 10? 1869 in Winchendon, paralysis, place of Birth New Hampshire mother born England, my interpertation of the record. > Hi Karen, I found a statewide index to births at the mormon family history library which included worcester county. If I am not mistaken I believe there are death ones too. You would have to see if the nearest family history center to you has it. I found this one at the Los Angeles one on Santa Monica Blvd. Where do you live? It was pretty hot here in the San Fernando valley! The Salt lake microfilm number for the births is SL#955702. It seems that its very hard to find records for that time frame for the county, in addition to close to 1900 like my grandfather was born. It seems I can find two of grandfather¹s sibling¹s birth but not his! According to mom and aunt the story was²the records got burned² which translates the courthouse had a fire! seems that most of my ancestors had the same fire. I wonder if they set it?! LOL kathy
