Carolyn: I'm not really a mall person. But, there are a number of them in Valencia. Out here 30 miles is not far. This place is just too crowded with people and I guess we are both ready for real country living and the 4 seasons. Yup, I guess I am ready for a 360ยบ change! Sandi

We'll have to travel 30 miles down to Valencia, in north Los Angeles County, for REAL shopping. My friend says we need to have a month's supply of this and that (she gave me a list) to allow for snow in the winter. Sometimes the roads are closed. Now I don't even want to think about that! A Maupin second cousin lives in Thermopolis, WY and they get snowed in each winter, sometimes for several weeks. Of course, they have heavy duty winters up there. I asked her about my succulent plants in pots. Wanted to know if they would be okay outside. She said it can get down to zero at night so plan on having the plants inside or in a sunporch. ZERO? What am I getting us into here? YOWL! Still, I'm getting excited about getting up there to look at homes. We went to the glass company today to order the mirrors for the three bathrooms. David put up the light strips Saturday and they sure do look good! Now to finish up the painting inside and on with the packing! Sandi

There you go Mary. And, thanks a Lot. Cuz Sandi Subj: DOROTHY'S BOOK - HOW TO ORDER Date: Saturday, December 23, 2000 12:13:30 PM Hi All: Dorothy [Maupin] Shaffett has just received copies of the third edition of her book called THE STORY OF GABRIEL AND MARIE MAUPIN. This book is a good research and reference tool on the Maupin family. If you are interested in getting a copy please send $40. per book to: Mrs. Dorothy M. Shaffett 1819 N. 82nd Street Kansas City, KS 66112-2005. It would be helpful to Dorothy if you also enclose one of your address labels. Sandi, Boy when you change lifestyles you do it in a big way --just reading about where you will be living would be toooooooo much of culture shock for me. Guess I like the 2 seasons -spring bleeds into summer bleeding into fall. The only "winter" is usually about 6 weeks of what you could call winter?? in maybe Jan/Feb. We have major malls, restaurants, grocery stores all within 2-15 mins. Humid most of the time, yes, but most convenient. Bless you for "retirement" and hope you and hubby thrive on it. I would probably "hate it" - but pray you "love it". Sandi, will you please e-mail me Dorothy's address. I have found a new Maupin cousin that wants a book. And I'll have him sign up for the Maupin list also. Thanks, Mary
Cousins: Having an email friend where we are moving has been a BOON. But, I just found out that they "roll up the streets" quite early each day, less the bars and liquor stores! Geesh, I'm sure not use to that! I emailed her again and asked if the liquor stores were like our local liquor/convenient stores. Haven't heard back but that will mean a total change in the way we shop! Len can drive safely after dark but I can't and don't. =^. .^=

My Maupin family has a colorful past and when I got started doing the family genealogy some DID NOT WANT IT DONE! I didn't know why until I started finding out some of the stories and think they are great! No family is perfect and we aren't responsible for what our old ones did. All my family males in Indian Territory (Grady CO, OK) made bootleg whiskey. I understand some in OK still do it and others don't say anything since it sells well! LOL There are some who still won't even discuss their old family as they say we just don't need to know about it. I have to wonder what they are hiding. Probably nothing that would shock anyone. But, I think what they know is painful to them. Cuz Sandi
Dear William. Sorry to be so long n getting back to you. I was hoping to get some info to pass on, but all I get is vague statments and promises. Tony, They were quiet until they got to know you. I was that way for years and years and finally snapped out of shyness. My grandfather and brother John were 6"0 or more. Didn't know John but my older sister (11 years) remember he used to come to our house when I was little. Seems his wife had a temper and would through him out when she was riled. Mom would fix him something to eat and she told Edie his wife ran him "plump off". His son, James lived in Maderia or Amelia and is about 74 now. His daughter Anna (met on-line) lives in OR but there is a son who is a policeman in Clermont County, OH and another daughter lives not far from father, James. Last time I connected with Anna, she had all bad news and said they thought her father was getting Alhezimers. Norma
