    3. Sherry, Glad to hear that you enjoyed your trip to Virginia. Did it feel like you had come home? If you think that it's humid now, just wait until July, there are days when my stick-straight hair actually curls because of the heat. This is prime thunder storm time, I love this time of year! But then again, I have never lived outside of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Did it feel like you had come home? I myself had that feeling every time that we visited Williamsburg & Jamestown, and never knew that I had ancestors who actually lived and died there. I am descended from the MAUPINS through Judith Maupin( born 1752 in Albemarle Co) daughter of Gabriel Maupin and Anne Ballard, she married David Epperson Jr (who died at Valley Forge). I grew up with lots of Maupins at school and church, there was even a little store called Maupin's Grocery that we frequented. Mom always said that we were related to Maupins, but she wasn't even sure how. Come to find out that it was on her father's side of the family. Heck, seems that I am related to most everyone in my area (Charlottesville, va) Now I finally know why I loved American History so much in school! I would love to see your photos. My mother was just given all of her mother's photos, 35 years after her death, she said that it was the best Mother's Day present that she has ever had. Happy Belated Mother's Day to all Momma's out there, Joanne Smith Charlottesville, Va -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, May 13, 2003 7:21 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [MAUPIN-L] Trip to Williamsburg & Maupin House Dear Maupin cousins, Just returned from my trip to Virginia and got to spend about 2 days in actual colonial Williamsburg. Oh my!! Is it beautiful there and so authentic with houses and businesses all restored and people walking around doing things in period clothes. I took pictures of the Taliferro-Cole house (the Gabriel Maupin/Marie Hersent Maupin house) and its auxiliary houses (like the kitchen house and carriage house) and the gardens, etc. It is beautifully restored and the gardens are gorgeous. As soon as I get them developed. I will let you know that I have them and can forward to anyone who wants them. I dont have a web site set up. But Sherry, I did see your wonderful website and maybe you would like my pictures for it. Will be in contact. It was such a wonderful feeling to really put myself "back in time" to this time period and really imagine Gabriel and Marie going about their daily chores and business. It is a wonderful place to see, and highly suggest anyone of you going to be anywhere near the area to see it. We didnt pay the fee to go inside of all the buildings. We just parked in the daily parking lot (about $5/day) and just walked the entire length of Duke of Glochester street and observed the buildings, gardens, events going on. Some of the buildings you can go in for free and we had an authentic "ale and Ploughman's sandwich" lunch at the Kings Arms Tavern. Does anyone know if any of the Maupin's attending the William and Mary college there also?? Glad to be home to San Diego tho (too too humid for me in VA).
