Dear Maupin cousins, Just returned from my trip to Virginia and got to spend about 2 days in actual colonial Williamsburg. Oh my!! Is it beautiful there and so authentic with houses and businesses all restored and people walking around doing things in period clothes. I took pictures of the Taliferro-Cole house (the Gabriel Maupin/Marie Hersent Maupin house) and its auxiliary houses (like the kitchen house and carriage house) and the gardens, etc. It is beautifully restored and the gardens are gorgeous. As soon as I get them developed. I will let you know that I have them and can forward to anyone who wants them. I dont have a web site set up. But Sherry, I did see your wonderful website and maybe you would like my pictures for it. Will be in contact. It was such a wonderful feeling to really put myself "back in time" to this time period and really imagine Gabriel and Marie going about their daily chores and business. It is a wonderful place to see, and highly suggest anyone of you going to be anywhere near the area to see it. We didnt pay the fee to go inside of all the buildings. We just parked in the daily parking lot (about $5/day) and just walked the entire length of Duke of Glochester street and observed the buildings, gardens, events going on. Some of the buildings you can go in for free and we had an authentic "ale and Ploughman's sandwich" lunch at the Kings Arms Tavern. Does anyone know if any of the Maupin's attending the William and Mary college there also?? Glad to be home to San Diego tho (too too humid for me in VA). Susan, glad to hear that you enjoyed our corner of Virginia. Yes, by all means send your pics, I will put them on and credit them to you. The website is in need of an updating and this will push me into doing it! :-)) You are right, it is HUMID here in Tidewater, VA. I never seem to get used to that or the mosquitos.
