Good Afternoon!!! Yes, that is the property, but it was Rental Property. The Custis family apparently lived in the country somewhere around Williamsburg. Daniel Parke Custis died in 1757 leaving Martha with two childred a boy and a girl. She married Washington in 1759, but she undobtedly met Martha in or around Williamsburg. Sherri Mason is going to help me get all the data from the "Lot 352" folder at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. I looked at the material some thirteen years ago but have not gotten around to getting copies. I plan to write a booklet on "Lot 352" for the 2005 Reunion. Am also working on a biography on Thomas Crease. He was born in Norfolk County, England, year not know yet, and came to Williamsburg in 1722, married Marie Maupin in 1723, worked at the Governor's Palace until Drysdale died in 1726 then went to work for William and Mary College. Was rather wealthy, so Marie lived an easy life after marring him. Thomas had six slaves at his death in 1757, plus a good size amount of cash for the time over 400 pounds. He made about 30 pounds a year working at the Governors Palace so you can see he saved a good deal of money. , about thirteen years wages. Now if we could save thirteen years wages today we would all be rich. Dorothy had a fall but did not break anything. She is well again, but slowing down. I hope she can make to the 2005, she is expressing some doubts about going. Hope to hear from you soon. Are you or your husband lawyers? Need to find someone to give a definition on the deeds of sale for the original Maupin House when Marie sold it. Apparently she and Thomas leased it back from the people who purchased it.
