Here's my history of the Missouri Reunion: I attended my first Maupin Reunion in Columbia, MO on the 2nd Sunday in June, 1974 and I haven't missed one since. At that time, I was living in Columbia, and my Aunt, Frances Maupin, had read a notice that there was a Maupin Reunion held in Columbia, MO on the 2nd Sunday in June at Cosmo Park. My wife and I attended with our three month old son, Gabriel and my Aunt (who didn't drive). It was the coldest, windiest Sunday ever for June. The coffee cups were blowing about and everybody was concerned about our three month old son being out in such weather. It was decided then that we should move the Reunion indoors. Mildred and Clayton Maupin of Fulton recommended going to the Fulton Community Center. Thus we held it there for three or four years. In February 1978, I moved from Columbia to Fulton, and have lived in Fulton ever since. I also got elected as an officer, and have been either President or Vice-President ever since. During the early eighties there was another group competing with us for the Fulton Community Center on the 2nd Sunday in June. We held the Reunion at the VFW in Columbia for 2 or three years but they changed club managers and the new one didn't want to mess with our group. We then returned to Fulton and because of the availibilty or unavailibilty of the Community Center we bounced the day around from year to year. We held it on Fathers' Day (the 3rd Sunday) one year and attendance was poor that year. Lately, we haven't had any competition for the Community Center, thus the 1st or 2nd Sunday is usually available. We put it up for vote every year and let those in attendance decide which day to hold it on the next year. Regardless of when the Missouri Reunion is held, there will always be somebody who can't attend. As Abraham Lincoln once said: "You can please all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all the people all of the time." -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, February 04, 2003 2:23 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MAUPIN-L] RE: 2003 Reunions In a message dated 2/4/2003 8:04:48 AM Mountain Standard Time, [email protected] writes: > > I just want to clarify Loren Adams' response concerning the Fulton > > Reunion. Wish we could lock in a time later in June.. School personnel and children often aren't out of school.. I know I can't go due to the date..
