Sherry, When I talked To William earlier this week, he was at his sister's. He had just returned from doing some research in Fredonia, KS and Miami, OK. As soon as he was free at his sister's he was planning to go to Madison Co., KY to work on some of the plans and details for the 2005 reunion there. As a result he was not planning to spend much time on the internet until after the Fulton, MO, reunion on June 1st. Let me do some brainstorming: The children of James R Maupin and Lucy Huckstep may have come of age and a share of his estate was given to them before he married the 2nd time. If there were no children of the 2nd marriage and the older children were already cared for, there would be no need to provide for anyone - except, the surviving wife. If her brother was younger he may have been named to insure that she would be cared for since there were NO younger children. Since you give bothe her maiden name and her brother as Mallory, she would not seem to be a - widow. It is possible that the Mallory named was the son of an earlier marriage - NOT a brother - check ages. Most genealogy programs provide means to identify 2nd marriages and that would be the only connection - without blood children. As to parents - each wife would have their own set - independent of the other - unless they were sisters - OR - related in some other way. Again - If the children were older they may have been provided for earlier. For proofs and/or documentations you probably need to check records for the transfer of land or slave ownership. Prior to 1863 slaves were handled just as the back 40 acres, except you could take a slave with you. I don't know if this will help much, but perhaps it may offer some ideas.
