    3. Susan, When it comes to Civil War and the Maupins, William has a lot of information, but you really want to talk to Julian "Doc" Maupin. Not only does he have a lot of research, but a lot of stories and since your John went to Kentucky you could probably fill a book. A point of interest. Fort Scott was established in 1842 and was a training center and jumping off point for troops involved in the Mexican War of 1846. It was also about the center of the line of forts and military highway from Ft. Dodge Iowa to Ft. Smith Arkansas. A lot of History here.
