Hi all, I have been monitoring all the discussion about Ancestry charging for family sites and it really upsets me that this is happening,.especially getting double payed from users and not letting anyone know about it. I know that it has us all pretty upset, but I hope that we don't end up cutting off the whole hand when maybe only the finger is injured. What I mean by that is this: I know that you have to buy a subscription to use the resources that Ancestry has available, but how many of us have used those resources and have found them valuable. I for one would not have found my Maupin roots if it weren't for their genforum sites and such and I would not have been able to find (as easily) my father's family. My father did not know his father and knew nothing of his family, through Ancestry I was able to find info about my father's heritage and to be able to help my father finally meet his lost family. I for one do not have the time or money to travel to find information the way it had to be found before the age of computers. I have done some of this and it has taken me 25 years to find my father's family and was not able to do so until computers. God bless those of you who have spent so much time to travel and search for family information and then are willing to share it. I know it is disheartening to see your work taken from you with no acknowle! dgements etc...and then to charge someone else to access it. I really don't know what the answer is, I only know that we have to keep on trying to find ways to share our info with others trying to find out the some things we are. After all that is what family is about. I want my children and grandchildren and all my descendents to know what kind of family they came from, how their ancestors helped shaped the country and cities and towns that we call home now. My father is such a different person now, because he finally has found his "roots" and has a heritage to pass on to his family. As fellow researchers you all know how important any small piece of information is to us now, so let us remember anything we have today will be valuable to someone in the future. Let us keep on keeping on....... I guess what I am trying to say is that even though there are alot of negatives about Ancestry and other gen sites there are also some positives too. Let us bear this in mind in all our future decisions.
