    1. [MAUPIN-L] EMAILING TO THE LIST OR NOT
    2. From: James Watson <jdwatson@erols.com> Subject: [MAUPIN-L] Question Date: Thu, 16 Nov 2000 06:31:07 -0500 Cousins--As a recent member to the MAUPIN-L, I have a question on proper procedure. If I see a question or comment on the List and wish to respond to that writer, is it more appropriate to do that using the MAUPIN-L or to just e-mail that writer at their personal email addy? I'm never sure about it, and do differnt things at different times. I noticed that one member was irritated about "one-liners", and I'm just wondering because I don't really know that much about the pros and cons of responding via the MAUPIN-L. Can somebody please enlighten me? Thanks, Denise ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi Denise and ALL: I was sorry to read the email from Mickey and that I wasn't on the list at the time to have seen it then. We do veer off genealogy now and then but we are a family and a little chatting never hurts. There is a closeness on this list and sense of family I do not wish to loose. I have had some people unsubscribe because of the chatting. If you have a complaint, PLEASE email me personally. Sometimes a complaint put on any list will start a flame war and we sure want to stay away from that! I will agree that we should start thanking a person for whatever, or, emailing a person directly if the context of the email has nothing to do with family genealogy or other information we should all know. Also, try to watch the subject line. Lots of people click on delete without reading the context of the email as the subject stated is of no interest to them and they might be missing something they really would like to know. When you all write to the list please give a clue as to what you are looking for instead of just saying "Please put me on the list." "I'd like one." You get the idea. We need to know what list or what it is a person wants, etc. to make it easier on all. We have so many different things going on now and I'm easily confused anyway, so, for me, please give us more facts in email. Best Wishes to you ALL, Cuz Sandi Carter MAUPIN-L - until I get kicked off again! LOL
